Birchbank is a small campsite on a Lake District sheep farm, located on the fells between Coniston Water and the Duddon Estuary. The site has a small stream running through it, which the children love to play in with footpaths and bridleways directly from the gate, making it ideal for walking and cycling. There are just 24 grass pitches, some available with a 10 amp electric hook up. Windermere is also within 25 minutes!

Why choose Birchbank Camping Site

Within 25 minutes of Lake Windermere and the Lakeland Motor Museum

Set on a 300 acre sheep farm, surrounded by walking routes, ideal for walkers and cyclists!

About the site

This peaceful campsite is situated on a 300 acre sheep farm on the fells between Coniston Water and the Duddon Estuary, a short detour from the Cumbria Way if you are walking. The farm is surrounded by footpaths for walking, with sheep and cows as your neighbours! The grassy, mostly flat site is off the beaten track and next to the open fell. There are 16 non electric pitches, along with seven grass pitches with 10 amp electric hook ups, as well as one hardstanding with 10 amp electric hook up. Tents, roof tents and campervans are welcome, with a maximum of eight guests permitted per pitch. For exploring by car, there are so many amazing local spots to choose from. Lake Windermere is within a 25 minute drive, with National Trust - Fell Foot and the Lakes Aquarium located on its shore. The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction, Brockhole on Windermere and the coast are within a 45 minute drive too! Dogs are welcome, with a maximum of two dogs permitted per pitch. Please ensure they are kept under control and on a lead because of the farm's sheep. In the evening, you can unwind with a BBQ or toast marshmallows over the fire pit. Please note that campfires are not allowed.

Birchbank Camping Site is open from 01/05 to 29/09 in 2025 and 2026. Stay from £20/night for 2 people (2-night minimum).

Large Tent - Electric Grass PitchesSep 2025

I love the quiet location of this site and the size, with it being on the smaller side. Plenty of hot water. Showers were great and washing machine etc, were all perfect. Slept really well, as everyone respected the 10pm quiet rule. Except for the last night, when I was woken every hour up until 3.30am, by a lady who didn't realise noise travelled so far and liked to have a conversation on the way to the toilet at 3.30am. This has really affected my 6 hour drive home. I'm so tired. This is not the site owners fault, but just lack of people's understanding of the area they are in. Not sure it's suitable for groups who sit up late when it's so quiet.
