Set in the High Weald AONB, Rother Valley Caravan Park is a rural, family friendly campsite, within ten minutes of Rye and Bodiam. Set along the Kent and East Sussex Railway, you can watch the steam trains chugging past. There are non electric and electric grass pitches for tents and tourers, plus cosy furnished bell tents and camping pods for glampers. There is a small play park and a field for games, with pubs and cafes within a 15 minute walk!

About the site


Located on the East Sussex and Kent border, this traditional family friendly campsite enjoys great views of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. You can even unwind on your pitch and watch the vintage steam trains chug along the Kent and East Sussex Railway. Tents, trailer tents, campervans, caravans and motorhomes are welcome on the main field grass pitches. Each pitch measures 8m x 10m and allows up to ten guests, with the option of a 16 amp electric hook up. Tucked away in a woodland alcove, you can also find additional 7m x 7m non electric grass pitches. These are suitable for tents, trailer tents and campervans only. For camping in all weather, there are a further four gravel hardstanding pitches for tourers. If you want to leave the tent pegs at home, opt for one of the cosy camping pods. Each pod includes a dining area, heating, electric sockets, a small fridge, crockery and utensils. Simply choose from the two person pods with a pull out double bed, or the four person pods with an additional two single beds. Please be sure to bring along your own bedding, as this is not supplied. You could also opt for one of the cosy bell tents, sleeping four with a double bed and two single camp beds. You will be provided with handy essentials like camp lights, a water carrier and cool box, plus a gas hob stove, kettle, cooking utensils and crockery. Outside is a picnic table and a BBQ for meals al fresco. Dogs are welcome to join you on the camping pitches and in the bell tents. Please note, the camping pods are pet free. For evenings onsite, you are welcome to hire a fire pit, with logs available to purchase too. BBQs are also allowed, just please ensure they are raised off the ground.

Facilities include a toilet and shower block with separate ladies' and gents' areas, each with two toilets and two showers. There are also two family wetrooms, a washing up area and a communal fridge/freezer. For kids, there is a small play area and a large space for outdoor games. Plus, there is a woodland path and picnic area to enjoy. Caravan storage is available.

In peak season, there is a pop up shop available. Guests can also hire fire pits from the site, with logs available to purchase.

Within a 25 minute walk, you will also find a Spar and Jempson's Local for picking up essentials. Sahebs Indian Restaurant is also just next door, with Lime Wharf Cafe, Nibbles Cafe and The White Hart within a 15 minute walk too.

You are able to check-in from 1:30pm until 8pm, if you are going to be delayed please let the site know. Check out is due before noon on your last day.

Dogs are welcome on the camping pitches and in the bell tents with up to four permitted per booking, sorry the camping pods are dog free. Please ensure that dogs are kept on a lead at all times and not left unattended, breeds and crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act are not permitted.

Fire pits are available to hire and logs are available to purchase, BBQs are also welcome as long as they are raised from the ground.

No, sorry awnings, gazebos and pup tents are not permitted.

Group bookings of four or more adults are not permitted (couples and family members are an exception), this includes no hen and stag parties.

Yes, parking is available beside your pitch.

The electric pitches have a 16 amp hook up.

No, sorry there isn't WiFi available onsite.

During peak season there is a pop up shop that offers ice cream, drinks and the basics. Or, there is a Spar or a Jempson's Local a 25 minute walk away if you need to pick up any essentials.

There isn't a restaurant or cafe onsite but Sahebs Indian restaurant is next door, or a 15 minute walk away there are a selection of cafes and a pub.

Yes, there is a quiet time policy between 11pm and 7:30am, the site also asks that radios, music and TVs to be kept at at low volume.


Things to do on site and in the Rye area

Just a five minute walk away is the Kent and East Sussex Railway, a heritage steam and diesel railway that runs from Tenterden to Bodiam. This 10.5 mile journey offers a nostalgic trip through the Rother Valley, a great, relaxing way to see the surrounding countryside.

Bodiam Castle is also within a ten minute drive. This 14th-century moated fortress offers a glimpse into medieval history. Visitors can explore the castle's impressive architecture and enjoy scenic views from the towers.

A 15 minute drive takes you to the historic town of Rye. Known for its cobbled streets and medieval buildings, Rye offers boutique shops, art galleries and traditional inns.
