Located on the edge of the Cotswolds, The Gate Hangs High in Hook Norton is a simple pub site, suitable for camping and touring on unallocated grass pitches. With views of the Oxfordshire countryside, pitch up at this site and sample a pint of one of Hook Norton's ales or a pub meal all on your doorstep. The site is also within 35 minutes of Chipping Norton, Bourton-on-the-Water and Stratford Upon Avon.

The sight is perfectly placed to visit all the local points of interest. The pub onsite serves good food. Pricey, but on par with the local area. The electric hook-up pitches are not well placed, being at the top of a very sloped field. It was virtually impossible to level caravan properly. Added to that, they are also right next door to an extremely loud Skip and Plant Hire company which starts making excessive noise at 6AM. We were woken every single morning with clouds of dust and clanking lorries and equipment. Only that site is next door to an industrial estate. We found the toilets and shower facilities basic and not overly clean. Not enough for the amount of campers they allow on site. There is little to no organisation to direct you to your pitch and explain site facilities. Unfortunately, this site is not for us. Probably more suitable for weekend or short stays. Certainly not for your main holiday of the year. We have come home feeling disappointed.

All fantastic, lovely people and very friendly site. Great pub, enjoyed the live music and the pizza.
Nice spot but not the best

Nice surrounding areas but really did feel like we were just parking on the pub's grass. Two toilets available and one with shower. The shower is scalding hot and if you have children you might want to consider them using it. They didn't seem maintained whilst we were there. Pint glasses, salt and pepper left out on the picnic tables all night. Looks like they are doing something with the grounds but not clear what. There was a band on the Saturday who were amazing, had a great time. Staff were nice enough. Wouldn't stay again but it wasn't the worst.
Fantastic stay and great camping field

Friendly, welcoming staff. Due to bad weather, I opted to eat in the pub. A local lady recommend "Dirty Fries", so ordered them with a pot of tea. Food fantastic, although I paid for a pitch, they let me stay in the large gravel carpark. Although, they can pull cars and vans for free. Slept well and would highly recommend.

Lovely location, great food at pub and nice welcome. Dog friendly and reasonable priced meals. Had a lovely overnight stay. The only negative was we were woken up at 6am by industrial traffic next door. Not what you want on a relaxing morning.

Nice site, event weekend that I wasn't aware of when booking Nice, cheap campsite, perfect for a 1 night stay for hikers. Unfortunately, there was a car show on this weekend that I wasn't aware of when booking, nothing was mentioned to us before arrival. This made the site very busy with non campers, and meant that all campers were positioned around the edges of the site to allow room for the classic cars in the middle. One outside loo and shower, so a little queue first thing but wasn't too bothered by that. Shower had amenities inside for anyone that forgets or runs out while visiting. Outside pub was friendly. Overall a pleasant stay and atmosphere. Would stay again, hopefully at a less busy point.

We had a great weekend staying at The Gate Hangs High. We were meeting up with other families and the site caters for everyone, vans, tents and rooms. There was live entertainment both nights and many of us ate at the pub and said the food was fantastic. Fantastic atmosphere both nights. Really family friendly. I was impressed at how quickly the site quietened down after the pub shut. So many sites with groups can stay rowdy for many hours, but other than stragglers and staff cleaning down, there was no noise. The only issues I would say we had was that due to a car rally, 2 members of our group were unable to actually hook-up to the electric as it was in the middle of the field and this was being kept clear for the rally. Also, the hook-up is in the middle where people drive up and down to an entrance. Also, on a steep slope so completely impossible to pitch a tent. We luckily just reeled the hook-up out and used it from there. However, it was a way from where we were able to pitch. Fine for our purposes but could have been tricky if it was essential. Breakfast was a bit disappointing as it was only serving baps and not full English as they don't do breakfasts on a Sunday. Also the one toilet over night wasn't very clean and had no toilet roll both nights. The seat was also loose which made it interesting. But, there was really no issue and there was only a couple of people waiting in the morning. The showers weren't great on a cleaning front, but water was hot, sliders recommended. The site is on a slope unless you are at the bottom of the field. Not major, but bed placement was interesting. Overall, it is a great place and we thoroughly enjoyed it. It is great value so I really shouldn't complain, the above are just observations really rather than complaints. Bonus point is that they sell logs for your fire pits. Definitely recommended. We hope to come back next year.

The campsite is located to the rear of a very good pub. The beer was well kept and the food prices were reasonable. We visited on a Bank Holiday weekend when the campsite was very busy. There was a classic car show on the Saturday afternoon and a live Ska band on the Sunday evening, both of which were unexpected bonuses. The campsite has limited facilities in terms of toilets and only one shower. These became somewhat overwhelmed due to the high number of people staying. All the staff were very friendly and doing their best to cope with the peak trade.

Easy to access, friendly staff, could have been more menu choice at the weekend.

We were running a reduced menu this weekend as we are in transition of a whole new menu. Thank you.

Not your average campsite! Basically, if you want to camp cheaply in the back garden of a pub with lovely staff, outrageously good beer and excellent musical entertainment (and the odd classic car and bike show), then this is for you. We had a great time! However, although there is great walking in the area, it is about 15 minutes down quite busy roads with no footway till you can get to a footpath. The field is right next to a skip and plant hire yard The toilet and shower facilities leave something to be desired! (Overnight, there is a single toilet for a 30+ space campsite, and (as had been the case) come Monday morning, the single toilet looked like it had been the main facility for an absolutely rocking and somewhat drunken ska gig! I have seen a lot worse though, and found the minimal number of toilets more of an issue than the state of them. By 10am, they had been given a good clean though. I thought it was great - but feel necessary to warn more sensitive types that it might not necessarily be their thing in the hope that it avoids the wonderful staff having to deal with disappointed complainers! A high-end camping and caravan club site it is not! (and in my book, that is a welcome thing!)

Field site next to good pub with great food and beer. There is a heavy plant yard next door so if you're looking for total peace and quiet, this is probably not the site for you.

Very convenient for Hook Norton and the brewery. The Gate Hangs High has a good selection of beers, very tasty food and friendly staff. Also dog friendly. Only downside is there is no hardstanding pitches so it's difficult in wet weather. But we will be back!

It was pouring with rain when we arrived quite late in the afternoon. Got chatting to a lovely guy in the car park who turned out to be one of the owners. He let us tick into the corner of the car park overnight as lees chance of getting stuck. Are in the pub. Food was AMAZING! Lovely staff. Sadly I didn't get the name of our little waitress but she was great. Would go back.

We stayed here on a soggy day, which exposed the challenge of the grass pitches. Most have EHU but the ground was very soft. It's been taken over fairly recently and a lot of work has been done to the pub and outside drinking areas. The facilities for the campsite have yet to be improved and included 1 shower with toilet and 1 additional toilet. The hot water was incredibly hot and difficult to adjust, we did raise this with the owners who were going to have this fixed. Lovely pub and food (dirty steak fries a big hit with us). Would recommend in dry weather :)

An ideal place for an excellent dinner with great food and service. The camping field and facilities are basic but clean with plenty of room to pitch where you like. The pub garden will be perfect in the summer with lots of tables and new Aunt Sally pitches.
