About the site

Part of Pegs and Pitches Camping, this off-grid woodland haven is great for those looking to spend some time in nature. The setting is near Battle, famous for its 1066 history and an easy distance from London and the South Coast. Choose from forest tent pitches, where you can set up camp among the trees, and furnished bell tents, which offer a wild glamping experience. The bell tents come fully equipped with everything you need for a stay in the woods. You'll be surrounded by forest as you cook on your own campfire and enjoy a back to nature experience. For tent campers, there's the chance to pitch up among the lovely trees in natural clearings. While for those who really want to languish in seclusion, there are faraway pitches that are further from the facilities but have incredible valley views over Bracken Valley or Beech Creek Valley. All pitches are private, but some larger pitches are available for groups of families wanting to camp together. Bell tents are set in private glades and come with a firewood allocation, beds, a picnic table, camping chairs and cooking utensils. Each has a fire pit so you can roast marshmallows and cook delicious campfire meals. It's the perfect way to skip overloading the car, but it's still a wild experience, giving you the chance to get back to basics. The woodland is part of a privately owned estate in the High Weald that you are free to roam! Discover wildflower meadows and spot incredible wildlife, such as buzzards and barn owls. Cars are parked away from the camping area, allowing you to enjoy nature as it should be. Please note that the campsite is off-grid, so has no electricity.

This eco campsite offers seven unique outdoor bucket showers with eco body wash and hand soap, five flushing toilets and six hand basins with hot and cold water. There are also six additional compost toilets and urinals around the site. Men and women also have separate facilities areas.

The campsite has seven water points with mains water to drink and five washing up sinks with a hot water supply, all totally off-grid. Campfires are permitted, and permanent wardens are onsite to assist campers at all times.

Netherfield Cafe, Shop and Post Office are a two minute drive away for picking up essentials. The Squirrel Inn is also a two minute drive away (walking is not recommended due to no pavement on the road).

Tent pitches are within the tree-enclosed woodland glade. The meadow has very large triple-sized pitches, each with a fire pit and picnic table. Campervans are possible with prior agreement. There are two flushing toilets in the meadow.

2 x Valley View Wild Double Tent Pitches

Max 10 people

The premium pitches on the campsite with views over the woodland. Almost wild tent camping pitch, surrounded by woodland and equipped with a fire pit and picnic table. 100m walk to facilities.

4 x Hammock Pitch

Max 3 people

Bring your own hammock and sleep among the trees! Space for up to three hammocks, with its own fire pit and picnic table. Shared facilities are around a 150m walk away. Tents are not permitted at this pitch. No electric.

5 x Wild Double Tent Pitches

Max 10 people

Double woodland tent pitches. Suitable for two large family tents (or an extra large tent and medium tent). All pitches have their own campfire pit and picnic table.

5 x Faraway Double Tent Pitches

Max 10 people

A spacious double tent pitch set in a more secluded part of the woods, suitable for tents only. Big enough to pitch at least two large tents. Each pitch includes its own fire pit and picnic table, and is a 200-350m walk from the car park.

Medium Tent - Faraway Tent PitchesAug 2026

Really lovely stay at this campsite, well worth the money. We stayed in a "far away" pitch which felt private and peaceful, but still only a short walk away from toilets and showers. Bucket showers are great and water was always nice and warm, toilets clean and washing up stations provided. The lovely staff member on reception was extremely friendly and helpful, even providing some maps which helped avoid us getting lost on the walk into Battle - camp info board has walk routes, day-trips and food recommendations. Will definitely be back again!

Large Tent - Wild Double Tent PitchesAug 2026

Had a really lovely stay at at Beech Estate for two nights. We stayed as two families with our two toddlers on wild double tent pitch (Pitch 4). The pitch was large and accommodated both our tents with plenty of room for activities! The facilities were always clean and there weren't any queues at peak times. The site have both flushing and composting toilets on site. There are a few areas around the site where facilities are based, all with bucket showers and washing up stations. The team on site are very friendly, helpful and welcoming. Quiet times were adhered to well and there weren't any issues with other campers, who all seemed to be enjoying their time at this eco, woodland site as much as we were. We followed one of the recommended walks to The Squirrel pub where we enjoyed a lovely Sunday roast, and would suggest booking ahead to avoid disappointment there. There is a small play area at the pub too. The walk was a steady one, and think the hills would have been easier if I hadn't had my daughter on my shoulders for the entire walk up! There's no electric on the pitches and phone signal was poor on O2, but this was certainly to the site's benefit as it gave a lovely, off grid experience, where you could switch off and enjoy being in nature. Our daughters loved their time playing on site, and we did too. Thanks so much to all the team for a lovely stay 😊

I, Hugh, am behind Beech Estate and Wild Boar Wood Campsites (formerly Eco Camp UK). An Aussie by birth and a Brightonian by choice, I started Eco Camp UK back in 2010.

Camping trips to Beech Estate are all about relaxing in nature. You can cook on and relax around the campfire, explore the woodland and enjoy den building, wildlife watching and bug hunting.

The campsite is close to Battle, where you can visit the English Heritage 1066 battlefield. The entire area is steeped in history and tells the full story of the Norman invasion. The Herstmonceux Observatory is also brilliant for families, with many space-themed exhibits.

Head to Hastings to discover the delights of the seaside, the Sealife Centre, Hastings Castle and more of the 1066 Story.

You're staying by the South Coast, so there are opportunities for lovely coastal walks, such as the Sussex Coastline Walk and trails across the South Downs National Park.
