A note from the site themselves...
Thorpe Farm was purchased by Percy Barkes back in 1936, the Great Grandfather of the youngest generation of Barkes' today. Deryk Barkes, Percy's son, farmed here thereafter. It was a mixed farm consisting of suckler cows and sheep with an arable operation too. He later expanded into dairy cows, one of only a few farmers in the area to have, at the time, a state-of-the-art milking parlour.
In 1982 Paul Barkes, Deryk's son, returned back from agricultural college. He slowly moved away from cows and into pig production, expanding the arable area and keeping the sheep flock. He later added a commercial grain drying operation and a small contracting business.
2012 was the year the site expanded into holidaying and have been loving it ever since. We then opened the farm and gift shop in 2019 and continue to look to develop to make the site even better for all of our guests!

Although we had read some unhappy reviews about an unfriendly attitude from staff - we found the total opposite to be true.
Everyone was courteous and very helpful. As for other comments on it's proximity to a busy road, that had been warned before we booked, and yes, we could hear traffic from our pitch but it did not at all spoil our stay or cause any concern at all.
We would definitely recommend.

We're really pleased to hear you had such a positive experience with our team – we work hard to make everyone feel welcome, and it's great to know that came through during your stay. We're also glad the road didn't impact your visit and that you were still able to enjoy a relaxing break with us.
Thank you for recommending Thorpe Farm Centre – it truly means a lot. We hope to welcome you back again soon!

Too much noise from the A66

Medium Tent - Grass Pitches (Optional Electric)Jun 2025
Too much noise from the A66 and parties until early in morning. Not recommended if you want a relaxing, peaceful and calm stay.
We opted for a electric pitch for our tent. The pitch wasn't anywhere near level and the noise from the A66 was horrendous. The traffic hurtles by literally a few metres away. The touring field seems to be entirely non-touring customers so it was caravans with awnings everywhere. Facilities were clean but the septic tank outside the toilet block was terrible, the whole time we stayed.
There was a party going on until the small hours and no sign of any wardens to ask them to keep quiet. The photos make it seem idyllic but the experience is different. I think we will give this site a miss in the future and won't be recommending it to our friends.
Site's response
Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We’re truly sorry to hear that your stay did not meet your expectations, and we appreciate you bringing these issues to our attention.
We understand how important a peaceful and relaxing environment is, and we’re sorry that noise from the A66 and other guests impacted your experience. We do have wardens on-site, but on this occasion we fell short, and we will be reviewing our procedures to ensure this is better managed going forward.
We're also sorry to hear your pitch wasn’t level and that the area around the facilities was unpleasant during your stay — this is not the standard we aim to maintain, and your comments will be passed on to our maintenance and grounds teams.
We are continuously working to improve all aspects of the site, and feedback like yours is incredibly valuable in helping us identify where we can do better. We do hope you might consider giving us another try in the future, and thank you again.
Warm regards,
Thorpe Farm Centre Team
