Motorhome - Electric Grass Pitches Apr 2025 There's nothing like a bit of retro in today's high paced, high priced, & high expectations world.
Bunchrew is a caravan site from a long gone era. I'm reminded of the old army camp of Cultybraggan, in Perthshire which I last visited in 1976. Both were PoW Camps in WWII. Bunchrew seems to be a stop off site to & from the North of Inverness. There are chalets that are disintegrating, with people still apparently living permanently in them.
The gentleman at reception is exactly that, a well mannered gentleman, from the time the site was probably first opened for the tenting & caravan towing families back when I was probably a still a lad!
The parking up on a pitch was easy, the gentleman from reception rode down astride his pushbike & waved nonchalantly at a general area, for us to put our motorhome. He then rode off in his woollen pullover & mustard coloured corduroy trousers, back to a waiting customer in the onsite shop.
As the day progressed there were many new arrivals. This is where the problems started. The rules for distance between units is 6 metres. Another motorhome pulled in between ours & the motorhome parked on our right hand side. That was the 6 metres fire safety gap gone. It's not as though there was even a view to see. Just a load of other tents & caravans. If they had stayed back on the grass, they would have had the same view but about 7 metres either side of them? Is it herd mentality, & thinking there's safety in numbers? Lord knows!
The ablutions are basic. In the male toilets, there's still a percentage of individuals still apparently confused by how the flush system works. The showers are a separate room next to the toilet & operating on a pull chain system, through the most robust Heath Robinson thick galvanised steel articulated arms. It looked severely over engineered. There was many hooks & stays to hang up your clothes. Just as well, as the floor gets wet up to the door. The water pressure was good & water warm enough. My foot kept going into the drain, even though there's a rubber mat to stand on. Overall, it's basic, we paid £31 for one night.
It's quiet, even though it was very busy as it got to evening time. The pot wash area has 2 sinks, but only one swivel tap, & no plugs in said sinks. There's a burger van on site, which is open at breakfast time & evenings 7 days a week. Wife had a bap with bacon 🥓 & I had a Lorne & Haggis for our breakfast. They were 4*. Absolutely fresh & delicious. £4- £4.50 depending on your fillings. Highly recommend.
The place is just crying out for an upgrade. People have different expectations now. Certainly when you're north of £25 per night. Then again, if you're happy to stay in an old style camping site, you will be in Nirvana..

Nice campsite Recommends site
VW-Type Campervan - Electric Grass Pitches Apr 2025 Nice campsite, but felt facilities were too far apart and need more signage to facilities.
Friendly staff. Clean showers, good but old fashioned, but it was a novelty how the shower worked.
Etape ride around Loch Ness Recommends site
VW-Type Campervan - Non Electric Grass Pitches Apr 2025 Lovely location, cheap price, clean amenities. Would recommend
Enjoyed my stay Recommends site
Small Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches Apr 2025 Enjoyed my stay.
Catering van was good, friendly people, got good hot water in the showers. Nice views to the Firth.
My only gripe as a cyclist was getting into Inverness. The A862 is busy but you can get on to the Great Glen Way, more for gravel or mountain bike rather than road bike and you need good climbing legs. I went for Etape and it was absolutely fine though as it starts early and the A862 is quiet then.
Not a campsite issue but maybe some better cycling links on that side of Inverness. Would visit again.
Beautiful and peaceful spot Recommends site
VW-Type Campervan - Electric Grass Pitches Apr 2025 Beautiful site in a gorgeous location. Perfect for a day in Inverness (hourly bus service outside the site), a trip to Loch Ness or a tour around the Black Isle.
We had a very warm welcome from the owner, Simon, and further information and help re a pitch from Fiona. What a lovely lady she is and she keeps the facilities spotless. Yes, they may be a little dated but there's lashings of hot water in the showers and I liked the shower on/off device, quite Heath Robinson-esque but perfectly functional.
A big thank you to Simon for the antiseptic spray that helped enormously after my little "trip".
Overnight stop Recommends site
Motorhome - Electric Grass Pitches Apr 2025 Beautiful location and everything you need. Just a little more dated than some of the other sites we stayed at, but that wouldn’t stop me booking again👍
Lovely site located on the Loch side Recommends site
VW-Type Campervan - Electric Grass Pitches Apr 2025 Very nice site, located next to the Loch. Good location close to Inverness, clean and good facilities and quiet and friendly.
Only slight problem was no plugs on any of the sinks in the washing areas. Otherwise we had a very pleasant stay, easy reach of Loch Ness.

Large A-class or Tag Axle Motorhome - Electric Grass Pitches Apr 2025 Friendly welcome on arrival and made aware of all facilities. Lovely, quiet site with a pleasant view. The showers were very warm, however there was no control over the temperature (oK for me but too hot for my son & daughter).
Nice place to view sunset with its serenity Recommends site
Motorhome - Electric Grass Pitches Apr 2025 Suitable for all types of groups and friendly staff. Welcoming with a smile and explain everything properly. Best place to see the sunset.
Beautiful campsite with friendly staff Recommends site
Large Tent - Electric Grass Pitches Apr 2025 First time visiting and will definitely come back again. The staff were friendly and helpful.
The site was well maintained and the shower block and toilets were very clean. Loved every minute of our stay. The tiny only downside was the Wi-Fi wasn't very good and I had to end up using my data as it kept kicking me out or going very slowly. I believe they are changing their Internet so that's a plus.
The food wagon was a god send when the weather took a turn for the worse and we could get hot food from the friendly gentleman serving.
Lovely site, great amenities Recommends site
Motorhome - Electric Grass Pitches Apr 2025 Would have been nice to have been met, as other sites had, to explain where everything was but it didn't matter as we found everything we needed.
If it had been our 1st site, we wouldn't have had a clue.
Excellent campsite, well maintained and managed Recommends site
Large Tent - Electric Grass Pitches Apr 2025 Excellent stay. Booked to come back in May. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Pleasant stay near Inverness Recommends site
Motorhome - Electric Grass Pitches Apr 2025 Excellent location. Grass pitches only and limiting with a motorhome. Good that there was no delineated spaces so could choose where you pitched/angle etc.
Was open earlier than other seasonal sites, but not sure if l'd use in spring unless really dry weather.
Site's response
Thank you for your review and very glad you had a pleasant stay and that you enjoyed the way we operate.
The only addition I will add is that we do have plenty of hardstand pitches spread over the park to which we can direct touring units to when required, but maybe you were unable to find them.
We hope to welcome you again.
Great Recommends site
VW-Type Campervan - Electric Grass Pitches Mar 2025 Great location and good facilities.

VW-Type Campervan - Electric Grass Pitches Mar 2025 Lovely views across the water, where we pitched for the night. It was quiet and the showers and toilets hot and clean - would stay again!

VW-Type Campervan - Electric Grass Pitches Nov 2024 All good but shower building was very cold and didn't seem to be heated so skipped my shower.

Motorhome - Electric Grass Pitches Nov 2024 Lovely site. Perfect, with beautiful scenery.
Nice site Recommends site
Sprinter-Type Campervan - Electric Grass Pitches Oct 2024 A nice site, but arrived 12:15 and they were closed, despite saying open until 12:30. Had no WIFI.
I would have put 5 stars, if the gardener hadn't come past my van while I was cooking my bacon sandwich and left me in black smog and did not apologise. Other than that, very friendly residents and calm.
