Why choose Spring Field Dark Skies Eco Camp

Environmentally sustainable camping, off-grid with solar electric and free WiFi

Central communal fire pit/BBQ and private fire pits/BBQs available for hire

About the site

Nestled in the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), this eco-friendly off-grid campsite offers a peaceful retreat away from the noise and pace of urban life. Powered entirely by a large photovoltaic solar system, it's a haven for nature lovers, families, bird-watchers, and stargazers alike. The campsite is hidden behind woodland, away from the noise of roads, in a secluded Dark Skies Area. For your safety and security, a time-lock gate operates 8pm - 8am. Campers are given the out of hours pass code for free access after arrival. Open-plan fields have views over the Shropshire Hills and the distant Shropshire Plain. You can spot wildlife right from your pitch, from wild deer in the early mornings/evenings, to buzzards, kestrels, red kites and owls. Choose between grass pitches or all weather hardstanding for campervans, tents, trailer tents, roof tents, and motorhomes (up to 7m, no twin axles). For those seeking extra privacy, there's a sheltered field just for tents and a very secluded tent pitch, The Hide-Away. In winter, hardstanding all weather pitches are available if the field is difficult for vehicles. Solar generated green power hook ups are available throughout the site, together with free WiFi. With a focus on tranquillity, camper numbers are low to ensure peace and relaxation with generously sized pitches. Tent campers can conveniently unload at their pitch in dry weather or nearby, with vehicles then parked off the field to preserve the serene atmosphere and make the site safer for children. There's a communal fire-pit/BBQ, pizza oven and a fridge-freezer to keep things cool, all free to use. Seasoned logs are available from reception. Hired fire pits/BBQ and pizza ovens for use at your pitch. Please note, privately owned fire-pits/BBQs brought onto site may not be used at the pitch but can be used in the central fire-safe area. There is a shelter pod with phone charging point and reading lights, great for those in small tents when the weather is less favourable. You can also hire a canoe from James. Shrewsbury Canoe Hire is based here to explore the River Severn and Attingham Park River Tern. The entire site can be reserved exclusively for private functions, parties, events and filming. The site is dog free.

A note from the site themselves...

Operating off-grid and aiming to be as carbon-neutral as possible, it's how we lower our impact on the environment. Most of the electricity is generated from a large PV solar array. The subdued LED lighting around the site is dimmed (saving energy) to preserve our Dark Skies, so you will need a torch in some areas.

Surplus electricity generated during the day is exported to the National Grid and used for heating the showers, further reducing our carbon footprint. Waste water from toilets and washing process stays on site and passes through a living reed-bed complex and onwards to an evaporation pond supporting local wildlife, ensuring we don't pollute the groundwater table or streams nearby.

We hope this explains a few of the things we do and our aims. You are also doing your bit for the environment by supporting us. We look forward to welcoming you to our eco paradise soon. As soon as you discover our site, you are sure to return soon to enjoy its peacefulness and leave refreshed by nature. Camp owner, Linda

Medium Tent - Grass Family Tent 3-7m Large Pitch(Optional Electric)Aug 2025

On arrival, we were directed to our tent site. Malcom was very friendly and accommodating and we were put next to another family with similar aged children, which was a great added bonus. Ground slightly sloped but wasn't an issue once we set up the tent. The site is very remote, which is fab for the dark skies part. We saw shooting stars & loads of stars. It is about 20 mins to get anyone on 1 lane country roads but we didn't find this much of an issue. We had a lovely curry in Much Wenlock and we went to the local National Trust Attingham Park. There are 2 female, 2 male toilet blocks, which were always stocked with toilet paper and looked clean whenever I visited. There is 1 male, 1 female shower, I usually had to wait a couple of mins for it to be free but no too much of an issue. Several drinking taps around the site. We did not use any of the communal fire pit or hire as due to the weather, open fires were banned which was fine, however can't comment on the pizza oven you can hire. Due to this they had a Thai van on site, unfortunately would not recommend at all. Save your money and cook your own or go out to eat. Overall, a great experience and we would definitely go back.

Site's response

Thank you for your review. This was a very busy Bank Holiday weekend and we were lucky to have several families with children on site. The good weather, alas, brought a campfire ban as we are surrounded by tinder dry farmland. Even our famous Wrekin was on fire last week. The Thai Food van was here to help a new business enterprise and also to give campers a choice as to whether to cook or have something a little different. It was up to individual choices and budgets or pure camping experiences.

Fantastic and clean site
