Tucked away behind woodland and far from the noise of roads, it offers a truly secluded retreat in a designated Dark Skies Area—ideal for switching off and reconnecting with nature. Wake up to birdsong and keep an eye out for local wildlife right from your pitch. Deer are often spotted at dawn and dusk, while buzzards, kestrels, red kites and owls are regular visitors overhead. * A small, eco-conscious campsite designed for calm With a limited number of generously sized pitches, the site prioritises peace, privacy and space. Choose from grass or all-weather hardstanding pitches suitable for tents, campervans, trailer tents, roof tents and motorhomes (up to 7m, no twin axles). * For added seclusion, tent campers can opt for a sheltered field or the beautifully tucked-away "Hide-Away" pitch. The campsite runs on a low-impact, sustainable model, powered entirely by solar energy. Onsite facilities include modern separate men's and women's toilets, free heated hot showers, hair dryers, hand dryers, sanitiser and soap. Black (Elsan chemical) and grey-water disposal. There is a communal fridge/freezer to keep your food fresh, along with a covered wash-up area with large sinks and hot water. Drinking water is also nearby.

There's a free to use giant communal fire pit in the centre of the camping field (subject to safe weather conditions). A shelter pod offers phone charging points and reading lights. There is free WiFi at all pitches. A Thai takeaway delivery service can be ordered too (menu in the shelter pod).

Shrewsbury Canoe Hire is based here. A 15 minute drive from the site is the charming village of Much Wenlock, which offers good shops, pubs and fuel, including The George and Dragon Real Ale pub. Other pubs nearby include the Riverside Inn (recommended) at Cross Houses overlooking the River Severn.

Wow, what a gem! Such a lovely site - small but has everything you could want. Facilities were great and very, very clean. Linda, who came out to meet us when we arrived, was very helpful. We came for stargazing but unfortunately, the great British weather wasn't on our side. We will definitely return!

A nice small campsite. Our host was very welcoming and helpful and recommended a very nice walk around the area. We enjoyed a fire at the large communal firepit - we were the only people using it that evening. Then we went to sleep listening to owls hooting.

What time is check-in and check out at Spring Field Dark Skies Camping?

Guests are welcome to check-in from 3pm until 7:30pm. Please advise the site if you are delayed. Check out is due before 11am on your last day. In most cases, the site is also able to extend your stay after checking in!

Does Spring Field Dark Skies Camping allow BBQs and campfires?

Private campfires/fire pits and disposable BBQs are not allowed on your pitch. However, these may be used in the central fire safe area. Only site hired fire pits and BBQs may be used at the pitch. Open fires are prohibited here!

A note from the site themselves...

Operating mainly off-grid and aiming to be as carbon-neutral as possible, it's how we lower our impact on the environment. Most of the electricity is generated from a large PV solar array. The subdued lighting around the site is dimmed (saving energy) to preserve our Dark Skies, so you will need a torch in some areas.

Solar Electricity generated during the day is used for heating the showers, enhanced with efficient Heat-Pump technology. Surplus power is exported to the National Grid, further reducing our carbon footprint.

Waste water from toilets and washing stays on site and passes through a living reed-bed complex (all operated by gravity using zero power) and onwards to an evaporation pond supporting local wildlife, ensuring we don't pollute the groundwater table or streams nearby.

HVO (100% renewable) fuel is used for generators and cutting grass. We encourage our guests to use biodegradable detergents and products during their stay.

We hope this explains a few of the things we do and our aims. You are also doing your bit for the environment by supporting us. We look forward to welcoming you to our eco paradise soon. Things to do on site and in the Shrewsbury area

The Industrial Revolution World Heritage site started in Shropshire in the 1790s, with many UNESCO sites nearby to visit. Mines on the Stiperstones are good for trekking.

** The National Trust now operates (March 26) the Birthplace of Industry. Blists Hill Victorian town (54acres) and the 10 local museum sites. These ten sites include Enginuity, Coalbrookdale Museum of Iron, and the Jackfield Tile Museums as well as 35 other buildings. All free for members.

Pontcysyllte Canal Aqueduct - Thomas Telford's masterpiece of engineering (UNESCO) (40 minutes away and free). Don't miss the experience of walking across if you have a head for heights.

The site is also on one of the cycle networks, Shropshire Hills 70, near the Jack Mytton Way. With wonderful hiking routes and wild swimming in the River Severn (20 minutes), it is a great spot for outdoor lovers. The area is also popular with foodies, with real ale trails and lovely shops in Much Wenlock.

Attingham Park (20 minutes) and discover the Georgian mansion and picturesque walled garden. Walk the deer park, just an easy 45 minute walk.
