About the site

Nature takes centre stage at this delightfully calm and tranquil camping and touring site set within the Blackdown Hills. Designed to keep camping simple yet fun, guests have a choice of grass or hardstanding pitches, catering to tents, caravans and motorhomes. There is also a choice of secluded pitches situated within the woodland here, made for tents only, and each enjoying their own unique spot on site. Woodland pitches are situated within the forest between the fishing lakes and main camping area here, and feature their own fire pit plus a picnic bench fit for the whole family. A bundle of wood for the fire is also provided on arrival. Additional pitches available in the overflow camping meadow during the summer months. If you fancy a more luxurious hideaway during your stay, why not choose a break in one of the stylish bell tents on site. All readily set up and awaiting your arrival, you can enjoy views over the lake on site as well as the lush woodland setting. The Snowdrop bell tent sleeps up to four and boasts its very own stargazing window. Beds provided, and a private bathroom is only a short stroll away. Step outside and cook up a culinary treat in the outdoor kitchen area - all crockery/cutlery supplied. Or relax in the glamping yurt on site complete with its own bathroom (a short walk away), bed and bedding, gas hob and electric.

The site is open all year round for hardstanding pitches. Camping and glamping are available from 27th March until end of September. The meadow overflow field is available between 1st May and 1st October. Pitches from £20/night for 2 people.

Medium Tent - Non-Electric Grass PitchesSep 2025

Very good value, individual camping plots amongst trees with two ponds available for fishing. Good facilities and not a huge site, so won't get overcrowded. Helpful staff with small shop for those nibbles and camping items. The roads close by are narrow and should be considered if towing, a nice pub the Half Moon Inn few miles away for meals.

VW-Type Campervan - Electric Hardstanding Touring PitchesSep 2025

Lovely quiet wooded pitches, lovely lady greeted us at the shop/reception and couldn't have been nicer and more welcoming. Great facilities and well stocked shop, would definitely visit again and would recommend, also had the best meal ever at the half moon inn about a mile away.

A note from the site themselves...

Your hosts at Kingsmead are Tristan, Jodie and our little boy Toby. Assisted by our Springer dog Pickles, we strive to offer a truly unique, and peaceful camping experience, which reflects the special qualities of Devon and Somerset. Both of us grew up here in the Blackdown Hills and we wouldn't live anywhere else.

Our campsite was founded in 1985 by Tristan's family and started life as a small Caravan club site, which quickly grew in popularity and has continued to do so since. We took over the family site in 2010, adding new modern facilities and glamping but respecting the natural feel of the site.

A peaceful atmosphere is further maintained by our no music policy, ensuring everyone can immerse themselves in nature and relax. We are passionate about ensuring our visitors feel at home by providing a welcoming experience, which sees the same faces return year after year to stay with us.

Kingsmead Centre is ideal for...

Couples
Older children (13+)
