Non electric grass pitches

Boyd Valley Lake is a quiet, family-run site located halfway between Bristol and Bath. With a large onsite fishing lake, it's the ideal spot for families, anglers and those wildlife enthusiasts. The site offers non-electric camping and touring pitches on several camping fields, or you can camp in style with two bell tents. Sleep up to four each, these are great for a family gathering. Can be furnished at an additional cost.

We were glamping in Boyd Bells - very romantic spot with gorgeous solar-powered glamping tents and private restroom. Very clean, lovely set-up and private picnic area. My fiancé and I had a wonderful time, the staff were great as well, thank you! 10/10

Less than basic facilities, but a good location

Small Tent - Non Electric Grass PitchesJun 2025

I stayed here for two nights in June 2025. They have quiet and secluded pitches, all with name boards, with plenty of space in each 'room', which are separated by trees, grass and bushes. It is a campsite geared to fishermen, most of which are male. There are flocks of geese (with lots of goose mess, which I thought was from dogs at first) and ducks, lots of bird life, with accompanying song, Warblers and robins. Plus distant farm noise from over the back where there is a farm and horses past the glamping tents. You need a Sat Nav, Google, Apple Maps etc to find the place. I didn't see a sign for Bitton from the direction I came from and no brown sign for the campsite either. It is that time of year where grass is growing high, obscuring bends in roads, also street signs were covered in bushes. When I arrived I parked up and went to look for the reception, only to find there isn't one; only a notice telling motor homes not to go any further. What about tents? I found a cleaner who directed me and told me I could pitch up by the pond. However, when I tried to turn up to the first obvious track, it was very narrow and edged with grass and weeds, unfortunately for me, as I tried to turn in, thinking I could drive over the weeds, I ground the front of my car onto a huge boulder, invisible in the grass; they should at least be painted white if they are edging a road and grass free. I reversed off the boulder and tried the next pitch. I have considerable damage under the front of the car now, however it is still drivable. When I told the owner, he only asked if I was okay. There is only one toilet block, which was a long way from the tents and the guests who need it the most. 2 toilets, 1 shower, with safety handles, so something to hang onto when washing the bottom of your feet. Water was good too, easy to adjust temperature; I've been at sites that have one set temperature and it's always far too hot for me. 2 sinks, with taps (only cold water), which was so powerful one couldn't hold one's hands under the water to wash without it going all over ones legs-have to put the plug in, all very a clean though. The taps were fine the next day. Toilet paper and hand soap was provided- no hand dryer, so take a towel. No hot water for dishes and rubbish bins right next to washing area, plenty of boxes to recycle different items. Not enough drinking water taps, at the very least there should be one in each camping area. Would be nice to have access to a fridge freezer or small chest freezer, as no electric pitches; in hot weather ice packs melt within a day in a cool box, so a maximum of two nights in a tent is all that is safely possible.

Site's response

Hi Hayley, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts. We’re really pleased to hear you enjoyed the peaceful setting, the birdlife, and the spacious pitches - we put a lot of care into keeping the site natural and relaxing. I hope you had a lovely end to your Cotswolds walk too! When it comes to finding us, we always recommend using Google Maps as it’s all marked there and will take you straight to the site. Regarding driving on site, please avoid driving through long grass. We maintain shorter grassy areas specifically to help with access. No worries at all about checking you were okay - you’re very welcome! We’re always happy to help and glad you felt comfortable reaching out. And for any future visits, there’s an additional drinking water tap just up the track from where you were, at the end of Hedgehog field. Thanks again for staying with us, and we look forward to welcoming you back soon!

The urinal doesn't drain. Shower full of mud and hair. Water tap wastes around 5L of water with every push. Garbage rotting away in washing up facilities. Unfriendly communication over the phone. Unknown inconsiderate individuals leave engine running and car radio blaring for 15mins at 05.00am No directions on where to go upon arrival. Zero lighting at night.

Excellent little campsite

I hadn’t twigged that a fishing lake would attract loads of single blokes who are up fishing late into the night. Felt a bit of a weird campsite for a young family. But facilities were great. Clean toilets and lovely washing up area.

Nice little campsite between Bath and Bristol. Toilet and shower were okay and clean, but the kitchen dishwashing facility was not good, with only cold water.

Rural and rugged. Basically a farmer's field with no pitching identification. Clearly pitches for people working locally and not on holiday. Soft grass difficult to get off site. Tractor tracks should have been my clue here. Refused entry onto field where facilities were by persons unknown. Spent one night there and moved on. Didn't feel like I could leave my van or awning unattended. Dogs were able to run around etc. Don't want my money back or anything. I believe the good reviews. Not for me as solo traveller with family local.

Nice, quiet and cosy

Small Tent - Non Electric Grass PitchesMay 2024

Great little set up and relaxed, easy going feeling. Just felt the toilet and showers were a bit limited. 1x WC/ shower/ wash basin for men and I believe 2 WC/ 1x shower for ladies. Also don't forget your mosquito repellent as you're amongst lakes. Quite clearly they are making improvements all the time!

Small Tent - Non Electric Grass PitchesMar 2024

This site is fantastic! With a range of fields you can choose from a range a views and range of distances from the facilities. The family who own and run the site are very welcoming and helpful, and will happily tell you lots about the area and its history. The location of the site itself provides an easy walk into a lovely town called Bitton. You can also walk to quite a few shops if you don't mind the longer trek. Otherwise, these are all in an easy drive. Bristol is also in an easily drivable distance. The toilets and shower are kept well cleaned and the shower is lovely and refreshing. Couldn't have asked for better!

Pretty enough little campsite in a nice rural spot but the toilets/showers let it down. Fine if you have your own.

We were a little skeptical due to the price, but it turned out to be one of the best value holidays we’ve ever taken. Site manager went above and beyond to make sure we knew everything we needed to know and had everything we needed. Thanks Pete for a perfect stay!

Small Tent - Non Electric Grass PitchesJul 2023

Stayed for just one night. The positives were that this is a very basic site. No frills, no site "police", very relaxed and very quiet. It was nice to hear the local wildlife, donkeys and horses nearby. A very good sleep. the negatives and improvements for me were that it was not the greatest first impression, with containers dotted around the site and overall unkept appearance of the site. Lack of maintenance. No hot water in women's showers (early evening). Slight smell from the toilet area. I won't return but if you're fishing and want a stay over it's okay. This site has potential though..

Clean and peaceful place for campers
