About the site

A family friendly tent campsite where the vibe is simple and back to nature on this working farm. Being by the border, there's lots to see in both Lancashire and Yorkshire. Pitches are grassed, without electric to suit tents and trailer tents with a maximum of six people per pitch. You can light up a fire in the fire pit or get the BBQ going from your pitch. Walkers are drawn to the Pendle Way (a five minute drive) but there are also local beauty spots such as Pendle Hill and Gisburn Forest to tackle, with a set of walking and cycling routes. A maximum of four dogs are allowed per pitch for an additional cost, just please keep them on the lead.

A note from the site themselves...

Shay Gate Farm Campsite is a family ran campsite on the Lancashire-Yorkshire border. The farm has been in our family for two generations, meaning we have all been extremely lucky to grow up around a wide range of Wildlife and Livestock, as well as in a beautiful setting!

We opened the campsite in 2020 to allow others the opportunity to experience those same things. We try our best to improve the site every year whilst trying to keep it as close to nature as possible for you all to enjoy!

Extra Large Tent - Non Electric Grass PitchesJul 2025

Stopped for one night to practice setting up our tent as new to camping. Well, what a great place and facilities especially for non electric. Clean toilet facilities supplied with toilet paper and handwash, quirky showers which are hot and powerful (can be adjusted) and pot washing facilities. Lovely fields, free from stones, pretty much pitch up anywhere and sea beautiful views. We arrived onsite and welcomed by staff near toilet area. Very helpful and friendly. Site was not over full. Nearby camper had music on after hours, however rang to inform staff and they responded immediately, music was off within a few minutes. Very reassuring they are looking after their campers around the clock. Thank you for making our first camping experience a great one. We definitely recommend this site and will be back again! 10/10!

Good site, facilities needed maintenance

Trailer Tent - Non Electric Grass PitchesJul 2025

Nice site, some wonderful views. The site is on a reasonable slope so may not be suitable for some. Facilities needed some maintenance, showers were cold for one of us and washing water cold on a different occasion. Toilets had problems with lighting too. There is a lack of active warden on site which lead to a mix of antisocial pitching (pretty much on top of our tow hitch), dogs left on stakes allowed to leave their mess over the grass and a group still making noise at 4am. There was a pizza stall on the Friday evening (was his first time trying it) which was really good, completely fresh, nothing premade to be reheated!

Very relaxing stay

Small Tent - Non Electric Grass PitchesJul 2025

Very nice site, simple - just open fields, but good ground for tents. Cracking views, very tidy facilities with good hot water.
