Things to do in Skipton

Skipton Castle is one of the most complete medieval castles that remain in England today. Climb to the top of the watchtower or to the dark depths of the dungeons to see what life was like 900 years ago.  Pack a picnic to enjoy in the in the Chapel Terrace with glorious views over the town.

Right off the high street and directly behind the castle is Skipton Woods, a rare ancient woodland site.  Enjoy exploring its two miles of pathways and take the binoculars and see what wildlife you can spot. Who knows what ancient treasures you could find.

Spies at the ready, Skipton offers A Spy Mission, a great way to get the kids involved while exploring the town.  Follow clues on statues and landmarks to find your way around and see the stunning sites of Skipton.

The Millennium Walk is another great way to see the sights.  Pavements and footpaths bear bronze way markers to help you follow the trail.  Passing canals, bridges, churches and the castle it’s a great way to find your way around. Don’t forget your camera, this is the best chance for photography delights.

A stroll along the canal path will bring you to the delightful Aireville Park.  There is seriously something for everyone here... pitch and putt, skateboard park, tennis, football and basketball courts, along with a multi-use games arena and it hosts Craven Leisure Centre with 2 swimming pools and a fitness centre.  The perfect day to use up some holiday energy.

Fancy a day on the water? You can be adventurous and hire a boat or take a guided tour with Skipton Boat Trips.  They put on an excellent one hour tour hosted by award-winning comedian Dave Spikey, of TV fame. With food and drink available on board, it’s a great way to spend your lunch break.

Perhaps horse riding is your thing, another top way to see sights in Yorkshire's countryside.  Draughton Riding Centre caters for everyone, from beginners through to expert riders, so it's clear that they have the horse for you.

Ten acres of greenery, rolling hillsides, animals, tractor rides and a maze - all this and more is available on a day out to Hesketh Farm Park. This is a working farm, so a great opportunity to up close and personal with lots of different farm animals, especially at feeding time. With picnic areas onsite, its catered for a whole day of adventure.

Nearby is the wonderful Bolton Abbey, a huge estate with 12th century priory ruins - every photographer’s dream.  Maybe you prefer to take a nature trail looking for wildlife or a relaxing Riverwalk, you never know, you might take glimpse of the elusive kingfisher. All this can be finished off with a delicious cream tea in the café onsite.

Skipton is perfectly placed for day trips a little further afield too, head out and explore the nearby Yorkshire Dales National Park, the Forest of Bowland AONB and the Nidderdale AONB. Or if you’re looking for city hustle and bustle then Harrogate and the cities of Bradford and Leeds are situated nearby as well.
