About Ruby Country Camping

Nestled in West Devon, this eco-friendly camping and glamping site offers families and couples alike a warm welcome. Set on a beautiful 5-acre meadow, it's got that wild-camping feel, just with hot water! There are seven spacious camping pitches, complete with cosy campfires and a grill to cook over the fire under the stars. Suitable for both tents and campervans. Want to travel without the hassle? The site also offers a fully furnished yurt and lotus belle tent. Both have outside fully equipped camp kitchens and, of course, campfires. There is also a 5m traditional bell tent which comes with just air beds and a two-burner gas hob. You bring everything else - it's a great way to try camping, but the tent is there waiting for you. You'll have no shortage of things to do. From 90 miles of bicycle trails such as the Tarka Trail right on the site's doorstep to countryside walks and hikes across the famous tors of Dartmoor, a 20 minute drive, and the beautiful beaches of Bude in North Cornwall are a 30 minute trip away. Likewise, the meadow itself is a spacious, relaxing environment to enjoy. The bottom of the meadow, near the stream, is left as a natural play area. With a badminton net, football, volleyball and rackets available to use or explore the stream. The site is dedicated to sustainable tourism and returning nature to their piece of Devon, the site has planted over 200 trees and over 1000 trees and hedging plants in total. They also cleared the stream which has led to the return of small fish and an otter from further upstream. A barn owl and other birds of prey have also returned. Dogs are allowed with tent pitches or campervans and must be kept on leads at all times. Unfortunately no dogs in the yurt, lotus belle and renta bell.

Ruby Country Camping is open from 18/05 to 16/09.

A note from the site themselves...

Your hosts, Dinah and Marc, are a motorbike riding, tent-loving, wandering pair who decided to sell their townhouse in Exeter and move out to Hatherleigh in West Devon to start their dream of running an eco-focused natural campsite.

Having stayed at many campsites over the years, together they have created a campsite exactly how they would like it to be. Its still a work in progress and they hope you'll enjoy it as much as they do.

They have a huge passion for nature and are always finding ways to improve and develop this little piece of the world.

Great stay at Ruby Country. Outdoor kitchen/ eating area was very accommodating, didn't have to bring much equipment with me. Yurt was clean and cozy. Campsite nicely spaced out.

Large Tent - Non Electric Grass Tent PitchesAug 2023

The weather was awful, but the campsite was very nice and the owners made us feel very welcome. The only downside to the site is the busy road next to it, which you can hear, but not see. I would recommend this site for anyone who loves camping in nature.
