A note from the site themselves...

We are the third generation to farm at Tranwell and are a family that is passionate about nature and wildlife. Over the past 60 years, we have established a nature reserve, planted thousands of trees and are members of the nature-friendly farming network.

You'll even find a small flock of rare breed Coloured Ryeland Sheep on a low stocking density to encourage a rich diversity of nature to share the farm with us.

We are also very passionate about being as eco-friendly as possible, so solar panels power the site. We encourage guests to think about reducing, reusing and recycling their waste whilst they are with us.

Medium Tent - Jumbo Tent PitchesJul 2023

Brilliant campsite - ideal as a quiet spot for couples, families or small groups of friends. Owners were very helpful and friendly, the facilities are clean and modern, and the site itself is very beautiful and idyllic. My only suggestion to improve from a 4.99 to a 5 star would be more kindling with the firewood. Novices like me struggle with such a small amount! (I appreciate this is most likely user error though).

Cracking stay

Bell Tent - Stargazer Bell TentJul 2023

A lovely, well organised stay. Good information sent ahead of time. There was more equipment in the Stargazer bell tent than we expected, very comfortable bed too. Very clean toilets and shower facilities. The path on the nature trail was quite overgrown with thistle and nettles around the pond but a lovely little excursion nonetheless.

Lovely quiet site near Morpeth

FAQ

Well behaved dogs are welcome on the camping pitches and in the shepherd's hut, there is even a designated dog walk area. Please always keep them on their leads as Tranwell Farm is a working farm with livestock. Do note there is a small fee and a maximum of 2 dogs per pitch/unit.

BBQs and campfires are great additions to camping and both allowed at Tranwell Farm. It is asked that they be purpose built with cinder / ash collection trays and raised off the ground. Due to their fire risk please do not use disposable BBQs.

Tranwell Farm is within 15 minutes of Northumberlandia, the perfect walk that offers something a little different. Also, within 15 minutes is Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens, see the inspiration taken from ancient Greek Temples and medieval ruins. If you're looking for a family friendly day out head down the road to Whitehouse Farm Centre, spend the day feeding the animals, enjoying tractor rides, or playing in the adventure playground.

You are welcome to check in between 1pm and 10pm. Please advise the site if you are delayed. Departure is due before 1pm on your last day.

Awnings and gazebos are welcome free of charge and pup tents can be bought for a small fee.

The site is just three miles (30 to 40-minute walk) from the historic Market town of Morpeth. Morpeth is a bustling market town with a modern walk-through arcade shopping centre, many artisan shops, and a fabulous selection of restaurants and tea rooms.

You can walk along the river and around Carlisle park to visit the gardens and have tea at the pavilion. Climb the steps to the top of Haa Hill, then walk on up through the trees to Morpeth Castle. In the summer, you can hire a little rowing boat down by the river, and the children can play in the park or paddle in the pool.

Pop along the road to the Whitehouse farm and help bottle feed the lambs.

Continue along a few miles towards Ponteland to visit Kirkley Hall Zoo and feed the lorikeets.

Five miles drive to the east, you step back in time and become a miner at the Woodhorn Museum.

Just 15 minutes drive to the south are the arts and culture of Newcastle and Gateshead. Do a spot of shopping at Eldon Square Shopping Centre, become a scientist at the centre of life or immerse yourself in history at the many museums.

The fantastic white sandy beaches of the Northumbrian coast are around 15 minutes drive. Starting with Blyth beach with the best fish and chips and ice creams. From here, you can follow the Northumberland Coastal Route past Drudge Bay.

To the west, you can become a roman soldier for the day on Hadrian's Wall, visit an actual excavation at Vindolanda, Walk to the sycamore gap and pretend you are Robin Hood. Take a scenic hike to see the waterfalls at Hareshaw Linn. While you are over in that direction, enjoy strawberry picking at Brockbushes farm shop.

Twenty minutes drive to the north, you can visit the world's biggest treehouse at the Alnwick gardens and get wet in the fountains (so take a spare change of clothes).

Barter for books in Barter books is reputably the UK's largest second-hand book store where you can sit and sip hot chocolate by their log burning fires. Become a wizard, try broomstick flying at Alnwick Castle, and indulge in handmade chocolates at the Chocolate spa.

On the way home, stop off Felton to visit the running fox cafe or the Northumberland Arms. If you have time, go for a walk with the wallabies at Northumberland Zoo.

Visit the many national trust properties nearby. To get lost in the labyrinth at Cragside, the first house to be lit by hydroelectric power. Enjoy a day's den building at Wallington Hall and gardens and wonder at the grandeur of Seaton Delaval Hall.

Watch a real knights tournament at English Heritage Belsay Castle, spend a day by the coast at Tynemouth and visit the Priory or drive up into the hills of Rothbury to see Brinkburn Priory.

  • Crazy golf
  • Amble
  • Walkworth
