About the site

Escape to the Sussex countryside at this relaxed family friendly camping spot on the grounds of Blackland Farm Outdoor Centre, just ten minutes to East Grinstead and Wakehurst. Set within the High Weald AONB, you can enjoy woodland and open green space, making it an ideal place to slow down and switch off. The site offers spacious, drive-on non electric grass pitches suitable for tents, cars with roof tents, trailer tents, RVs, caravans, campervans, and motorhomes. You will find 20 solo adult only pitches, 20 two person pitches and ten family pitches. Please note that a minimum of one adult is required to stay on the two person and family ones. For those looking to add a little extra comfort, there are optional upgrades, including 5m pre-pitched bell tents with an optional camp bed for an added fee. Please bring everything you would bring camping, minus the tent. Fire pits, logs and s'mores kits are also available to purchase to make evenings around the campfire even more memorable. Staying here also means you're based at Blackland Farm Outdoor Centre, with a huge range of optional seasonal activities available to book during your stay. From axe throwing and climbing to high ropes, bushcraft and seasonal watersports, you can keep things as relaxed or adventurous as you like. The campsite is dog-friendly, with up to two permitted per pitch, so four-legged family members are welcome too, and with direct access to the surrounding countryside, there's plenty of space to explore, walk, and unwind. Raised BBQs and fire pits are only permitted here.

The campsite is open year-round, although as the site primarily offer grass pitches, periods of heavy rain can make the ground unsuitable for heavy vehicles.

Onsite, there is a facility block with individual cubicle toilets, showers, and handwashing basins. The toilet blocks have 13 amp domestic plugs inside for charging phones and using hairdryers. There are outdoor washing up areas as well as a communal fridge/freezer. Guests can also hire fire pits, firewood bundles, s'mores bundles, and camping essentials.

Being located at Blackland Farm Outdoor Centre, guests can, for an additional charge and depending on the season, book activities, including axe throwing, paddleboarding and other water sports, archery, high ropes courses, bushcraft, and more.

The Blackland Farm kiosk and shop is also available during your stay, serving hot snacks, fresh coffee, milk, cold drinks, and essential camping items, along with a selection of everyday treats and refreshments.

In nearby West Hoathly (5 minutes), you'll find the Fox Freehouse on Highbrook Lane, known for its relaxed atmosphere, food, and real ales, and the historic Cat Inn, a traditional country pub with strong local character. In Sharpthorne, also five minutes away, you'll also find the village shop and Costcutter convenience store, ideal for stocking up on essentials.

Site rules and policies

*Check-in is between 3pm and 5pm. Please check out by 1pm on your last day.

*Follow all fire safety guidance provided.

*BBQs and fire pits are permitted only if raised off the ground.

*Dispose of all ash, coals, and waste responsibly.

*No disposable BBQs directly on the grass.

*Dispose of all rubbish and recycling in designated areas.

*Quiet hours are between 10:00pm and 7:00am.

*The site does not tolerate behaviour that causes nuisance, disturbance, or risk to others.

*Alcohol may be consumed in moderation and responsibly.

*Dogs are welcome with a maximum of two per pitch, but must be kept on leads at all times and cleaned up after.

*Smoking is not permitted onsite.

*Please follow the Countryside Code at all times.

*Please note that the site reserves the right to ask guests to leave without refund if behaviour is deemed inappropriate, unsafe, or in breach of these conditions.

Kingfisher Campsite is all about creating space for people to slow down, reconnect, and enjoy the outdoors in a simple, honest way. What we love most is seeing families, schools, and groups arrive busy and leave a little lighter, having shared time around campfires, under the stars, and out in the fresh air.

We're passionate about making the outdoors accessible, whether that's a first camping trip or a long-awaited escape back to nature. Being part of Blackland Farm Outdoor Centre means we can also offer something a bit more adventurous for those who want it, but the real goal is always the same: to help people switch off, spend time together, and make memories that stick.

What we're most proud of is the atmosphere - simple, relaxed, and unpretentious - where everyone can feel at home outdoors!

Things to do on site and in the East Grinstead area

While onsite, and depending on the season, you can enjoy a range of outdoor activities to keep everyone entertained. There's archery, aero ball, abseiling, axe throwing, bushcraft, firelighting, and campfire cooking lessons, along with nature walks, rock climbing, canoeing, paddle boarding, kayaking tasters, and more.

Please note that these will all be chargeable.

Being in the historic High Weald National Landscape, hikers, cyclists, and explorers have access to several scenic trails which pass through ancient woodlands, including the very popular Ashdown Forest with Pooh Sticks Bridge, the setting that inspired the famous Winnie-the-Pooh books.

A ten minute walk also takes you to the Weir Wood Reservoir, where you can wander around and spot birds and other wildlife, try your hand at fishing, or even stop off for a picnic.

Great family day trips can also be had at Wakehurst (10 minutes), a country estate with lakes, woodlands, and formal gardens, Tulleys Farm (15 minutes), and Bluebell Railway (20 minutes), with steam engines and a museum.
