Shepherd's Hut - Joan Ensuite Shepherd's Hut (Dog Friendly)May 2026

We had the perfect stay at Brook Cottage! The setting on the lake was beautiful and peaceful, and the hut was very thoughtfully furnished and decorated. The location is a perfect base for exploring Snowdonia and the Llyn Peninsula with gorgeous beaches, mountains and waterfalls all in close range. Thank you for the thoughtful touches too! Little things like Welsh cakes on arrival, treats for our dog and snacks for the way home were lovely.

Site's response

Shepherd's Hut - Susanna Ensuite Poacher's HutAug 2025

Beautiful little holiday. We received a lovely pre arrival message with a warm welcome and information needed for on the day. An absolutely beautiful shepherds hut, tastefully decorated, very comfortable, and extremely clean. Everything is very well thought out for your ease & comfort, we had everything we could possibly need and more. On arrival, we had a small welcome package of milk, Welsh cakes and jams waiting for us. Just lovely. The site is quiet and located not far from supermarkets, restaurants and beaches with plenty things to do out and about, should you wish to explore the peninsula. We would highly recommend a stay here. The hosts are a lovely couple, very friendly and have good local knowledge. On departure, we were presented with a small gift bag of fruit for our journey home and a thank you postcard. Just perfect!

A note from the site themselves...

We're Joss and Steve and - along with our rescue dog, Jake - Brook Cottage is a place we fell in love with the moment we first visited. At the end of a quiet lane, it felt like stepping into a slower, gentler pace of life.

As nature lovers, we're drawn to the stillness here: the birdsong at sunrise, the calm of the woodland, and a real sense of space to breathe. We want Brook Cottage Shepherd Huts to be somewhere guests can pause, switch off from the world, and find time for what matters - themselves, each other, the natural world around them.

Each of our five huts is named after the wife and daughters of the famed Welsh Prince Llywelyn, and each one has been thoughtfully designed to reflect the landscape and heritage of this part of North Wales

We look forward to welcoming you to Brook Cottage soon.

Peace and quiet

Things to do on site and in the Pwllheli area

Brook Cottage sits at the heart of one of Wales's most quietly spectacular corners. The Llŷn Peninsula is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and with over 90 miles of coastal path, some of Wales's finest beaches and Snowdonia National Park on the doorstep, there's no shortage of reasons to venture out - or simply to sit outside your hut and take it all in.

Beaches

The Llŷn Peninsula is home to some of Wales's most beautiful and unspoiled coastline. Whether you're after a lazy afternoon in the sun or a long blustery walk with the dog, the choice is yours:

Abersoch (20 minutes) - a lively, sandy beach popular with families and watersports enthusiasts, with a pretty harbour village to explore

Aberdaron (30 minutes) - a remote and atmospheric beach at the very tip of the peninsula, with a charming village and a wonderful sense of being at the edge of the world

Morfa Nefyn (20 minutes) - a sweeping arc of sand with the famous Ty Coch Inn sitting right on the beach, offering the perfect excuse for a well-earned pint after a walk along the shore

History and culture

The area is rich in Welsh history and culture, with some remarkable places to explore within easy reach:

Criccieth Castle (15 minutes) - a striking coastal fortress with twin-towered gatehouse and sweeping views over Cardigan Bay

Harlech Castle (40 minutes) - a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most dramatic castles in Wales, perched high above the coastline with commanding mountain views

Portmeirion (30 minutes) - the extraordinary Italianate villag, set on a private wooded peninsula with gardens, architecture and a distinctly dreamlike atmosphere

Llŷn Maritime Museum, Nefyn (20 minutes) - a fascinating small museum charting the seafaring heritage of the peninsula, housed in a former church overlooking the bay

Walking and the outdoors

The area is a walker's dream at every level, from gentle coastal strolls to serious mountain days. Pick up a free walking guide from the hut, or ask us for a recommendation:

The North Wales Coast Path - part of the wider Wales Coast Path, offering long-distance walking through some of the country's most varied coastal scenery

Yr Eifl (20 minutes) - three dramatic peaks rising from the peninsula, with the ancient hillfort of Tre'r Ceiri near the summit and extraordinary views on a clear day

Snowdon (45 minutes) - Wales's highest peak, with multiple routes to suit all abilities and one of the most iconic mountain walks in Britain

Craflwyn and Beddgelert, National Trust (40 minutes) - beautiful woodland and mountain trails in the heart of Snowdonia

Wander around charming coastal towns of Criccieth, Aberdaron and Abersoch, for independent cafes and shops

Adventure and activities

For those looking for something with a little more of an adrenaline edge:

Watersports at Abersoch and Pwllheli (15-20 minutes) - sailing, kayaking, paddleboarding and more on some of Wales's best waters

Zip World, Blaenau Ffestiniog (50 minutes) - zip line in a former slate mine

Go Below Underground Adventures (55 minutes) - guided underground expeditions through the slate caverns of Snowdonia
