About the site

This award winning, adult only retreat sits within three acres in the gorgeous Pen Llyn countryside. Close to the seaside town of Pwllheli and ten minutes from the coast, the five individually designed huts overlook a natural wildlife lake, with beautiful views towards the mountains. Choose from Joan, the largest shepherd's hut with views across the wildlife lake or Susanna, a poacher's hut with an interior created by Banjo Beale. There is also Angharad, inspired by the landscapes of North Wales and Marared, a cosy gypsy hut perfect for couples, as well as Elen, another gypsy hut also with views across the lake towards the mountains. Each hut sleeps up to two adults and has a cosy double bed, a fully equipped kitchen and a private modern ensuite bathroom. There is also a wood-burning stove, with logs provided for the first night. Outside, there is a BBQ/fire pit and outdoor seating area to relax and enjoy the surroundings. The kitchen has an oven with a two ring hob, fridge/freezer, kettle, toaster, cafetiere, crockery, utensils, pots, pans and a baby Belfast sink. The ensuite bathroom has a shower, flushing toilet, towel radiator and a hand basin, with handmade organic goats' milk soaps and shampoo. Bedding and towels are provided. When you wake up, you can also enjoy the complimentary fairtrade tea, coffee and hot chocolate. For chilling out, an Anker Soundcore Mini Bluetooth speaker and radio are also provided. Although there is no WiFi so you can enjoy a digital detox, 4G coverage is generally good. One small to medium, well-behaved dog is welcome in Joan, Susanna and Angharad. Marared and Elen are pet-free. Dogs must be kept on a lead around the site as Brook Cottage is surrounded by fields with livestock, and must not be left unattended in the huts. The Llŷn Peninsula National Landscape is renowned for its beaches, mountains and spectacular coastline, with more than 90 miles of Wales Coast Path to explore. Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park is also within easy reach. Guests receive the site's own guide to some of their favourite local walks and places to explore. Brook Cottage has been featured in The Guardian, The Times and The Sunday Telegraph, and one of the huts was transformed on BBC One's Interior Design Masters!

Brook Cottage Shepherd Huts is open all year round in 2026 and 2027.

Shepherd's Hut - Joan Ensuite Shepherd's Hut (Dog Friendly)Aug 2026

We attended over the bank holiday weekend as a couple and everything exceeded expectations. The shepherds hut was stunning and kitted out with everything you could possibly need. The site is quiet and the huts overlook a lovely pond and have views of fields and picturesque mountains in the background. Location was perfect for us, approx a 20 minute drive to Abersoch and 5 minutes to the centre of Pwllheli. The hosts were very accommodating and even provided fresh milk and Welsh cakes on our arrival which went down a treat. We will definitely be back here!

Shepherd's Hut - Joan Ensuite Shepherd's Hut (Dog Friendly)May 2026

We had the perfect stay at Brook Cottage! The setting on the lake was beautiful and peaceful, and the hut was very thoughtfully furnished and decorated. The location is a perfect base for exploring Snowdonia and the Llyn Peninsula with gorgeous beaches, mountains and waterfalls all in close range. Thank you for the thoughtful touches too! Little things like Welsh cakes on arrival, treats for our dog and snacks for the way home were lovely.

Shepherd's Hut - Susanna Ensuite Poacher's Hut (Dog Friendly) Aug 2025

Beautiful little holiday. We received a lovely pre arrival message with a warm welcome and information needed for on the day. An absolutely beautiful shepherds hut, tastefully decorated, very comfortable, and extremely clean. Everything is very well thought out for your ease & comfort, we had everything we could possibly need and more. On arrival, we had a small welcome package of milk, Welsh cakes and jams waiting for us. Just lovely. The site is quiet and located not far from supermarkets, restaurants and beaches with plenty things to do out and about, should you wish to explore the peninsula. We would highly recommend a stay here. The hosts are a lovely couple, very friendly and have good local knowledge. On departure, we were presented with a small gift bag of fruit for our journey home and a thank you postcard. Just perfect!

A note from the site themselves...

We're Joss and Steve, and along with our rescue dog Jake, we fell in love with Brook Cottage the moment we first visited. At the end of a quiet country lane, it felt like stepping into a slower, gentler pace of life.

As nature lovers, we're drawn to the stillness here: the birdsong at sunrise, the calm of the woodland and the sense of space to breathe. We want Brook Cottage Shepherd Huts to be somewhere guests can pause, switch off from the world and find time for what matters - themselves, each other and the natural world around them.

Each of our five huts is named after the wife or one of the daughters of the Welsh Prince Llywelyn the Great, and each has been individually designed to reflect the landscape and heritage of this special part of North Wales.

We look forward to welcoming you to Brook Cottage Shepherd Huts.

Things to do on site and in the Pwllheli area

Set on the Llŷn Peninsula, Brook Cottage is a wonderful base for exploring one of Wales' most beautiful coastal landscapes. With beaches, mountains and more than 90 miles of Wales Coast Path to discover, you can spend your days walking, swimming, exploring or simply slow down and enjoy the wildlife lake and mountain views from your hut.

Abersoch, around 20 minutes away, is known for its beaches, watersports and lively village atmosphere, while Morfa Nefyn, also around 20 minutes away, has a beautiful sweeping bay and the famous Tŷ Coch Inn tucked beside the beach.

Walkers are spoilt for choice. Explore the Wales Coast Path, climb the distinctive peaks of Yr Eifl, or head into Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park for woodland and mountain walks around Beddgelert and Craflwyn. Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) is around 45 minutes away for those looking for a bigger mountain day.

There's plenty of history and culture too. Criccieth Castle overlooks Cardigan Bay, the Llŷn Maritime Museum in Nefyn tells the story of the peninsula's seafaring heritage, and the Italianate village of Portmeirion makes a memorable day out.

For something more adventurous, head to Zip World Llechwedd or Go Below Underground Adventures for a very different way to experience the North Wales landscape.

Other places within easy reach include Aberdaron (30 minutes), Portmeirion (30 minutes), Harlech Castle (40 minutes), and Yr Wyddfa/Snowdon (45 minutes)

Or don't go anywhere at all - light the fire pit, pour a drink and spend the evening watching the light change over the lake and mountains.
