VW-Type Campervan - Non Electric Grass Touring PitchesMar 2026

I would say that in a couple of years, this is going to be a really nice site, but at the moment it seemed very much under construction. On arrival, we went to the field that was indicated as appropriate, only to be greeted with 'you can't park here' by what seemed to be a long term resident, who told us to move on to another field. The only other field appropriate for a vehicle was being reseeded and was largely a big area of mud. We found a spot at the top of a slope and set up camp. Before long, a very nice manager appeared and asked when we wanted our wood and fire pit, which he delivered in good time. We loved the fire pit-a recycled washing machine drum type, and a generous bag of dry wood. He explained about the reseeding he was obviously working on, and showed us how to exit avoiding that area. There was quite a long period of tractor/digger noise, which wasn't so peaceful, but obviously necessary for the site development. There seemed to be quite some long term residents living in caravans there, and a number of fishermen, who were cheerful and lively, as well as some ponies and Canadian geese. The fees were very reasonable, and the campsite was open all year round, which is how we came to choose it, but it was a work in progress, and we wouldn't go back for a while if we were looking for a recreational, peaceful, campsite. We wish them all the best for the future and hope all goes well. We visited a local cafe, the Golden Valley Cafe and Farm Shop, which we stumbled upon. It was buzzing with a busy, happy atmosphere, had outstanding coffee, the food looked delicious, and it was a very nice place for children, with ponies, donkeys, goats and other livestock to see.

Excellent
