About the site

The Old Vicarage is a 17th century house (once indeed owned by a vicar) in a small village located just off the A1, 15 minutes from Worksop and just under an hour from Nottingham. Pitches are located around the grounds, which run down to the banks of the River Poulter. Here there is an ornamental bridge, along with oak trees, ash and acacias growing, often the location of weddings and events. Kids can hop along the stepping stones in the river, and have a dip (under the watchful eyes of an adult). There is also a chance to swing over the water in a rope swing, along with a small park featuring a climbing frame, trampoline and more. All pitches are grassed, with both electric and non electric available in a range of sizes. For those who aren't bringing a tent with them, there's also a log cabin onsite, sleeping six with a furnished interior and en-suite. Please note, the Cave Bar is only open during the May and August Bank Holiday weekends.

The Old Vicarage at Elkesley Campsite is open from 15/03 to 29/09.

A note from the site themselves...

The Old Vicarage is set in former monastic land most of which belonged to Welbeck Abbey. To this day, the Abbey's secrets are still being revealed, its subterranean passages having even been used to store the nation's art treasures during the Second World War.

The Duke of Newcastle provided a rich variety of trees to the Old Vicarage including False Acacia, Sycamore, Lime, and varieties of Ash and Oak, to name but a few. The contrasts of green, that turn to gold in autumn, together with the River Poulter, make the Old Vicarage an unusual venue that lends itself to photographic opportunities.

Medium Tent - Non Electric Grass PitchesSep 2025

Lovely little river with lots of swings for the kids to play with. Only thing was the breaker kept going off on the shower so the hot water was very unreliable. But otherwise the facilities were super clean despite muddy kids. Would visit again.

We loved it (4 adults and 3 children). Perfect site, kids loved the river and swings zip lines etc. will definitely be returning in the new season. 5 star. It was nice the cave bar being open and being able to get a beer.

Large Tent - Non Electric Grass PitchesMay 2025

Really nice site, the river is fantastic. my kids and dogs loved it. Would definitely visit again. Toilets and showers were fine, weren't spotless but when loads of kids have been swimming in a river, that's to be expected. Perfect place for a mini get away. The river is perfect, not particularly deep so perfect for all ages. Wish I'd taken a rubber ring or dinghy as my teenage son would've enjoyed it even more. Loads of swings and zip lines and other play areas. Only criticism would be the cost to hire a fire pit with wood. £25 that included a bag of scrap wood, not logs. More like a bag of kindling. I could've bought a decent fire pit for that price. So make sure you take one, or buy one! Washing up area was inside a hut, much better than being outdoors. Overall, a fab stay with plenty to do.
