Farm and Fell is a peaceful farm campsite beside the River Rawthey, north of the Yorkshire Dales in Cumbria. Head out to explore the nearby Dales Way and surrounding countryside, before returning to the site for farm activities (seasonal) and a delicious meal from the onsite kitchen! About the site

This family friendly working farm is set in peaceful open countryside beside the River Rawthey, a ten minute walk from the centre of Sedbergh. With the Dales Way running through the farm and panoramic views across the Howgill Fells, it's a great base for walking and exploring the Yorkshire Dales. There's a choice of spacious non electric grass pitches, with the main field offering 8m x 6m pitches for tents, trailer tents, roof tents and campervans. Alternatively, pitch up in the river field for tents, roof tents and campervans. A limited number of fire pits are available, with hardwood logs available for purchase. Children can meet and interact with some of the farm animals, including goats, pigs, horses, sheep and cows, while seasonal activities may include lamb and calf feeding! Farming courses also run throughout the year, giving you the chance to get stuck into everything from lambing and sheep shearing to feeding calves. Explore the surrounding footpaths, or make the 15 minute drive to Cautley Spout, England's highest waterfall. With dogs welcome onsite, the whole family can enjoy the adventure. BBQs and open fires (in raised fire pits) are permitted, as long as they are raised off the ground. Charcoal and electric BBQs are prohibited.

Guests have access to three unisex toilets in the main field, hot showers and a small outdoor sheltered washing up area. There are only portable toilets and a small shower block by the river and quiet field.

During busier times, the kitchen serves breakfast, lunch and dinner with local farm produce, open when at least 15 pitches are occupied. When closed, the owners offer a free drop-off and pick-up to Sedbergh (two minutes away) for local eateries and shops.

The Red Lion and The Black Bull Inn are a 20 minute walk away.

Didn't realize the toilet and shower facilities were as they were. Coped, disappointed with no toilet roll in the toilet at 9:00am on the Sunday morning. Other than that, a nice site with polite and helpful owners.

We loved this site. It was quiet and the views of sheep and calves in the nearby fields was very calming. The location was great, plenty of local walks and only 15 mins walk into town. The pitches were spacious and well separated by long grass in between so your own pitch felt private. When we arrived around mid afternoon, there was no indication of where to pitch. we spoke to a camper who said just park up where you like and the owners usually come round about 6pm. Maybe a bit of signage or on a welcome email would be useful to explain. We didn't know where to dispose of grey waste water and chemical loo so brought it home. Again a bit of signage would help, other signage eg route to river and town was very clear.

Lovely little campsite. Dog friendly. Has clean facilities of toilets, washing area and showers. Not a far walk into town. A river just beside the camp site to enjoy a swim on a hot summers day. Friendly locals of goats, sheep, pigs, horses and cows to visit while having a walk round the campsite. In the morning owners came through collecting rubbish anyone may have had. Overall would stay again 🌟

What time is check-in and check out at Farm and Fell?

Check-in at Farm and Fell is available from noon until 8pm. Please advise the site if you are delayed. Check out is due before 11am on your last day.

Is Farm and Fell dog-friendly?

Yes, Farm and Fell is dog friendly, so you don't have to leave any member of the family behind! Please note that breeds and crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act, or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa, are prohibited.

Does Farm and Fell allow BBQs and campfires?

At Farm and Fell, open fires are allowed as long as they are in a raised fire pit. BBQs must also be raised off the ground. Charcoal and electric BBQs are not permitted.

A note from the site themselves...

We farm 200 acres of the Yorkshire Dales and graze 4000 acres of the Howgill Fells. We rear native Galloway cattle, rare-breed Berkshire pigs and native Fell sheep, including Herdwick and Rough Fell.

All our cattle and sheep are grass-fed and reared using a low-intensity, traditional farming system, grazing outside all year round. Our pigs live outside during the summer and move into loose housing in winter. By farming this way, we can conserve our farming heritage while working in an environmentally sustainable way.

Brian served 17 years in the British Army and is passionate about supporting troops who are struggling to transition to civilian life. As part of the business, we run The Rawthey Project, which supports some of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged military veterans back to sustainable employment and independent living. It is a very important part of what we do.

Things to do on site and in the Sedbergh area

There are plenty of farm activities here for everyone to enjoy, with hens, ducks and pigs needing feeding each day, and guests are always invited to get involved! In late spring, you can get up close with the farm's lambs, from feeding and changing their bedding to taking part in a full lambing course.

The farm experience continues as the animals grow, with opportunities to learn about sheep shearing, wool spinning and sheepdog demonstrations. When calf season arrives, farming courses focus on learning all about the adorable newborn calves!

Pony School is another favourite, introducing guests to the farm's equine residents through pony grooming, safe handling and preparing ponies for cart pulling.

Beyond the farm, enjoy a day at Lakeland Maze Farm Park, 25 minutes away, while the Yorkshire Dales National Park and White Scar Cave are both 30 minutes away by car. For a day out further afield, The Lakes Aquarium is 40 minutes away.

For something a little different, the annual charity week, Hells Fells, supports armed forces, NHS and emergency service veterans and serving families, with brilliant adventure training for all.

From feeding the animals to learning the ins and outs of farming, you can experience life on a working farm right from your pitch!
