Enjoy the space and privacy of camping in a large, wild field on Heron's Rural Retreat - a working farm. With just a few tents spread over scenic countryside, you can really reconnect with nature and get away from it all. Sit atop the hill and enjoy views over the Aylesbury Vale and wildlife, including buzzards and red kites flying overhead, or look for the deer that roam the fields here. Alternatively book one of the adult only glamping units.

About Heron's Rural Retreat
Kick back and relax in the calm atmosphere at this working farm - where there's only ever a few campers. A small number of grass pitches without electric will suit tents and small campervans only - and there's plenty of room between each pitch. Campfires (off the ground) are welcome, with fire pits for hire. Firewood is also sold on the site. Please note that touring caravans, motorhomes and trailer tents are not accepted onsite. As for glamping - enjoy space and privacy in the unique units which are perfect for couples. Fitted out with a Double or King bed, each has a gas hob, log burning stove, cooking equipment and seating - you can choose extras from there. Please bring your own towels. Connie the glamping hut is a quirky option, a former military truck now converted into a cosy glamping haven with double bed and kitchenette. There is also a vintage Shepherd's hut and Showman's Wagon, both lovingly restored as overnight accommodation with period details and handmade items. Sorry, no pets allowed. The site is licensed by the Woodland Champions Club, helping landowners create and manage woodland for the public to enjoy.
Open from 1 May to 31 October
Site facilities include a toilet/shower block comprising of three toilet cubicles and an LPG powered hot shower. There is also a well sheltered cart-shed kitchen area. This is for the use of bell tent guests only. Fire pits and BBQs can be hired from the site (please do not use instant BBQs as these damage the grass).
Pick up the footpath from the site and head to the Three Locks pub and restaurant on the Grand Union Canal nearby.

The place is full of peace and quiet. We had great time and the owners are really lovely and helpful.

Although the farm is only a short distance from major roads, it has fantastic views from the hillside and perfect quietness. It has the feel of remote county side without actually being hard to get to. The facilities are ideal; a barn has been converted into a rustic outdoor kitchen with places to sit outside. Clean showers and toilets all on a small site.

Had a lovely one night stay at this site with its terrific views. This is a farm, so it is not mown grass pitches, but land that is also used for animals. There are quite a lot of slopes, but plenty of ground to choose from so you can find a flat bit. The owner sent out great directions on how to get there prior to arrival, which was very helpful and then met me when I arrived to show me where to go.

Things to do on site and in the Leighton Buzzard area
The farm is home to a diversity of wildlife including buzzards, red kites and deer as well as migratory birds.
Quench your thirst at the Three Locks pub on the Grand Union Canal, a 15-minute walk from the farm starting on a public footpath. Alternatively the Old Red Lion pub is walkable and situated in the charming Buckinghamshire village of Great Brickhill.
Visit 400 acres of woodland next door in Rushmere Country Park and there are also plenty of private nature walks on the farm.
Mountain bike tracks abound in the area with tracks in Rushmere, Woburn Trails and Aspley Wood, both a short drive away. There's also extensive cycling available on the Grand Union Canal towpath if you prefer a more relaxed ride.
