Wonderful restful location

'The Hens Den' is an organic farm with 6 spaces for tents / campers. The view from the back of our VW was the orchard, just rows and rows of apple trees, which was a real treat every morning and with the sun rising it's quite breath-taking. The owners are lovely, have done a lot to the farm by refurbishing hens coups, building shower and toilet facilities along with washing facilities, washing machine, kettle, microwave, and washing pole, bonus. Plus the resident dog is just adorable and very friendly. The little honesty shop sells provisions, the farm produces their own apple juice which is amazing, we purchased 8 bottles to bring home, everyone loves it! We walked to Maidencombe beach which was 15 mins either along the road, or a little longer via the coastal path. Heads ups via the road there is a steep hill to walk down, however, the beach it's beautiful which also has a little cafe that's open 7 days a week. The Pub isn't open Mon or Tue and unfortunately, we didn't get a chance to sample their wares, but did look amazing! Hint for the beach, take a pop up tent or parasol as it can get very hot! 20 min bus ride picked up from Maidencombe cross into Torquay £3.00 return! Although there isn't a bus stop the other side, when returning ask the driver and they'll stop there. We absolutely loved our stay, definitely return, thank you so much xx

Gorgeous spot

A lovely two night stay at the Falstaff camping pitch. We were greeted by the friendly Jerry on our arrival who helped us get our bearings, recommending the local pubs and beaches. The kitchen is fully equipped and clean, the bathrooms are also clean. They clearly care a lot about the site and it shows. Two nights weren't long enough in this little retreat - we'll definitely be back!

Delightful

Simple site in a lovely location, full of rural charm. Pitches well spaced and feel private….. width of pitches may be tight for campervan with wider awning. Was very dry prior to my stay and the ground was hard so rock pegs needed for tents or awnings. A number of tent boxes and VW T2s in during my stay so clearly has attraction for a variety of different set ups. Lovely to have individual picnic tables tucked up into the orchard. Good facilities for a small rural site with shared fridge, toaster and washing up facilities. Showers are good and hot. Owners seem to pop around everyday and are lovely.

A well-equipped campsite with a structured feel

This campsite has great washing and cooking facilities, which make staying here convenient. Past reviews have noted that uneven ground was tricky, but the pitches have been levelled, which appears great for campervans. That said, I would now describe the ground as compacted aggregate, and you're quite close to fellow campers, which makes it feel a bit less connected to nature. If you're looking for a wild, rugged camping vibe, this might not be the spot for you. But honestly—you can't please everyone—and I'd definitely stay here again!

Great campsite

Great campsite just off the main road so no long drives down long winding lanes and all the local towns a short drive away. Loved the six individual pitches at the end of the fruit trees. Three separate shower/toilet combinations with an extra toilet. All spacious and clean with everything you needed. Fabulous washing up area with washing machine, microwave, kettle and toaster. Even had an undercover chill out area with sofas and bar football. Owner was very relaxed and friendly, always walking around and talking to guests. All in all a fantastic campsite that I would definitely recommend to others.

Brilliant small campsite in great location

This was a delight to stay at. We came here as part of a group some camping and the rest in the chicken sheds. We all loved it and will be back. The location meant you could walk to the beach and local pub but also easy to drive to Dartmoor and lots of other beaches. Highly recommended!

Everyone was happy here...

The couples in the cabins were thrilled with their cosy facilities, and the diehard camping families loved their separate pitches alongside the Orchard. The comfy shelter was great when it rained, and we enjoyed the firepit area for a shared BBQ. We appreciated the ability to still be all together, and the proximity to the lovely Maidencombe Beach (with it's Cafe Rio) and the Coastal Path. The apple juice was scrumptious!

Perfect getaway!

Lovely, quiet, generous site

Recently back and can't wait to go back. Lovely, quiet, scenic site. I said generous because it has great facilities. I didn't shower, but my sister said they were super hot and good power. Appreciated heated facilities and even soap and hand towel. Very near local coastal walk and other great places.

Happy campers

We had a really nice stay at the Hen's Den campsite. Close to the coast path and a bus stop for Torquay etc. Very friendly owners. Great pitch, with electric, at a reasonable price. Clean and plentiful amenities. No issues with this site.

Fabulous stay and immaculate facilities

We actually stayed 2 nights in our campervan with electrical hook up. As it was half term in February, we had the campsite to ourselves. The location was ideal for walks down to the coast and along the coastal path. The toilets, showers and kitchen area were immaculate with loads of hot water, and very warm heating system. As you would, expect it is a bit hilly whichever way you walk, but we were expecting this. The food at the local pub, The Thatched Tavern, was excellent, and about a 15 minute walk. If you don't want to drive, then literally at the top of the road is the bus stop, with buses every hour either to Shaldon or Torquay. The Shaldon bus was only £2, which no doubt is cheaper than paying for parking. Overall, a really lovely campsite, great location and we will be back.

VW Camper stay at Hen’s Den

A perfect spot for an over-night stay in a campervan. We explored Maiden coomb Beach in the morning which is only a 10/15 minute walk away

Great winter trip

A lovely location with a faultless setting. The Hen's Den had it all. Great showers, communal facilities and a very quiet location. Would recommend for anyone, whether solo or with a family.

A lovely small campsite, set in the real countryside, on a farm and orchard. Very accommodating and hospitable owners. Super clean facilities with added extras. I was especially fond of the soft shower mats and other charming details. Fabulous eggs & apples.

Lovely stay

Lovely campsite with everything you need, showers and toilets were clean and washing areas also. Lovely views of the surrounding area all located in an apple orchard. Chickens on site so nice fresh eggs a plenty for breakfast. Perfect.

One of the best campsites I've seen

This is one of the best campsites I've ever seen. Well equipped, charming surroundings - beautiful apple trees. Very tidy, clean and well organised. Highly recommend. 🙂

Great little site

A very nice and quiet site. Pitch was level and with electric hookup for tent. Toilets and showers were clean and had use of washing machine, microwave, toaster and kettle. Perfect as a base for a holiday.

Amazing place

This is a great place to stay, the pod was plenty big enough for my family of 5. We really like that all the pods had their own individual bathrooms and small kitchens. Also that they were sectioned off and you had your own space with a picnic table. The kids loved the little chill out zone/games room.

Great little site for a short stay. Tents are quite close together but in a truly beautiful setting.
