A note from the site themselves...

Having grown up in South Africa and lived with my husband under canvas in Africa for two years, we wanted to share the 'glory of glamping' on our working farm, a mixture of arable and livestock.

My husband, Richard, is passionate about the health of our soil and has introduced mob grazing and directly drilling methods to the farm. This has significantly increased wildlife on the farm - we've seen an increase in hedgehogs and barn owls and insect life.

We love that guests get to relax, enjoy being in a soothing natural environment and can show their children a friendly, working farm.

Safari Tent - Safari TentsMay 2025

We've just returned from a long weekend break and it was just what we all needed. We stayed in one of the Safari Tents. The location is great and in close proximity to a number of places should you wish to use it as a hub, but equally if you wanted a peaceful place just to relax, read a book or go for walks it's perfect too. We opted to stay put and have some much needed downtime, days playing games, flying kites, hunting for bugs, reading books and enjoying the farm. The children enjoyed watching and interacting with the different animals, feeding the orphaned lambs of an evening and collecting fresh eggs in the day. We didn't spend loads of time in the barn, but the ride-ons and games were enjoyed. The tents were well equipped and had everything we needed for our stay. The beds were comfortable and warm and the bathroom was great and lovely warm shower. We enjoyed evenings around the fire pit and the wood burners inside were great once we decided to migrate indoors. We didn't miss the electric and it was a good excuse for a device detox and the tents have some solar lights in the main living area as well as rechargeable lamps that you collect on arrival should you need them and access to electric points in the honesty barn should you want to charge devices. The honesty shop is great for necessities like tea, coffee, honey and a selection of cold drinks and a good selection meat if you wanted to purchase on site. The team were all very helpful and friendly. I think this is a great site for a range of groups, from couples to families to groups of friends. I wouldn't hesitate to book to come here again and would definitely recommend to friends.

Safari Tent - Safari TentsApr 2025

It was our first experience of glamping and pleasantly surprised by the facilities you get while remaining a rustic farm charm. The whole site seemed well organised and thought through. The staff / owners were very friendly and helpful. My only suggestion would be a "reception/park and wait sign" by the first parking area to avoid confused people like my self driving round. This might have been in the email instructions, but I'm a nightmare for reading instructions.

Site's response

Dear Mark, thank you for taking the time to review your stay at Gambledown over the recent holidays. Thank you too for your feedback. We do ask guest to wait in the arrivals car park, and let us know they are here so we can show them the honesty shop etc and then take them to their tents. We are pleased to know that you enjoyed your first glamping experience. Kind regards, Tamara and team.

Things to do on site and in the Romsey area

There's plenty of room here to play and get active or even get competitive with a round of team games. Finish every day with a visit to the pigs or chickens and say hello to some spindly legged new calves or spring born lambs, if the season's right.

A small shop onsite with beef, lamb and pork is available, so there's no excuse not to cook up something delicious in your safari tent and feast the night away. They offer a stew pot, bbq or breakfast hamper and wood fired pizza nights.

Just south of where you are staying, the New Forest is an absolute delight for walking and cycling routes. There are too many picture postcard villages to count and this is a place where wild horses roam freely.

There are tennis courts to try out on the village green, you will need a key to access the courts. Don't miss the National Trust's Mottisfont Abbey, which is a grand setup with a very tasty cafe, or catch your own tasty morsel at the Woodington Fishery, which is 10 minutes away in the car. Another unmissable stop is Salisbury Cathedral, home to the Magna Carta.

Paulton's Award Winning Family Theme Park is a handful of miles away and has rides especially for little ones, plus fun entertainment for all the family.
