Green Oak Nature Retreat is an eco glamping site set in seven acres of woodland, 25 minutes from Edinburgh. There are just two pods onsite, each powered by green energy. Sleeping up to two, they come fully furnished with a double bed, wood burner, kitchen, WiFi, a smart projector, speakers and more. You will also have outdoor seating and a fire pit for unwinding in the outdoors. Shops, pubs and a train station are within a five minute drive too!

About the site


Experience eco-friendly luxury at this small off-grid glamping site. Surrounded by tall trees and wildlife, yet just a stone's throw from the M90, guests can enjoy days exploring Edinburgh, just 25 minutes away, with evenings unwinding in the open. There are just two glamping pods onsite, each sleeping up to two. Inside you will find a double bed, bedding, a fully equipped kitchen, a log stove and a comfortable living area. A modern ensuite includes a flushing loo, hand basin and shower. You will also have everything you need for a cosy night in, including high speed WiFi, surround sound speakers and a mounted smart projector with Netflix, Amazon Prime and YouTube. Outside you will find a private seating area with a fire pit for toasting marshmallows! The hot showers are powered by an LPG boiler, electricity generated by solar panels and a wind turbine, with fresh water sourced from the private borehole. Do note, the site is pet free,

For shopping essentials, there is a large Aldi and Tesco within a five minute drive. The Barley Sheaf, Hill Tavern and Dalgety Bay train station are within five minutes too.


A note from the site themselves...

The off-grid lifestyle is something that has amazed me for quite some time. It really is all about self-sufficiency and not being dependant on anyone to live your life. This is a four year passion project of ours and was the result of meticulous planning, we are delighted to share it with the world!

Things to do on site and in the Dunfermline area

Deep Sea World (10 minutes) is located under the Forth Road Bridge in North Queensferry, is Scotland's national aquarium. It features a 112m long underwater tunnel, where visitors can walk through and see a variety of marine life, including sharks, rays, and tropical fish. The aquarium also offers interactive exhibits and daily feeding shows.

The Scottish Vintage Bus Museum is 15 minutes away in Lathalmond, Dunfermline, a quirky attraction dedicated to preserving Scotland's bus heritage. It houses over 150 historic buses and coaches, many of which are still operational. Visitors can explore the extensive collection and even take a ride on a vintage bus during special event days.

Scotland's Secret Bunker (45 minutes), is located near Anstruther, and is a fascinating underground attraction. Built during the Cold War, this hidden bunker was designed to be a control centre in the event of a nuclear war. Visitors can explore the extensive underground complex, including the command centre, dormitories, and radio studios, and learn about Cold War history.

The village of Culross is 20 minutes away, a well-preserved gem, with its cobbled streets and historic buildings. Known for its appearance in the TV series "Outlander," Culross feels like a step back in time. Highlights include Culross Palace, with its beautiful gardens, and the ruins of the 13th-century Culross Abbey. Don't miss the quirky tiny houses and artisan shops!

The Kelpies and The Helix Parkare 30 minutes away, two towering horse-head sculptures located in The Helix Park near Falkirk. These 30m high sculptures are a tribute to Scotland's horse-powered heritage. The park itself offers a network of walking and cycling paths, a lagoon for water activities, and plenty of green spaces for picnics and relaxation.

Andrew Carnegie Birthplace Museum is ten minutes from the site, a museum dedicated to the life and legacy of Andrew Carnegie, the famous industrialist and philanthropist. The museum is housed in the cottage where Carnegie was born and explores his rise from humble beginnings to becoming one of the richest men in the world.

Falkland Palace (40 minutes), is a favourite retreat of the Stuart monarchs and is a beautiful Renaissance palace set in lovely gardens. Visitors can explore the palace's stunning architecture, including the royal apartments and the Chapel Royal. The gardens are equally enchanting, featuring the oldest tennis court in Britain, still in use today. It's a quirky blend of history and horticulture.

A visit to Inchcolm Island is like stepping into another world. It takes 15 minutes to get to South Queensferry with a 30-minute ferry. This island in the Firth of Forth is home to Inchcolm Abbey, one of the best-preserved monastic sites in Scotland. The island offers plenty of quirky charm with its resident seals, seabird colonies, and historical ruins.
