About Highlands Holidays Monmouth

A peaceful break on a Welsh smallholding is the order of the day here as you'll stay in idyllic surroundings, with views across the valley. Pitches are almost all on grass, on a gentle slope, sheltered by a line of trees, with electric also available. These are available for tents, campervans and motorhomes alike. There is also one level hardstanding electric pitch available. Hidden away in the apple orchard, the hand-crafted Orchard Wagon offers a cosy glamping break for those looking for a few home comforts. Inside there's a toasty wood burner, large bed, decorations and electric. Get back to nature with miles of forest and riverside walks from the door of this site. At night, sit around the campfire listening to the owls hooting. It is the perfect hidden escape! If a basic campsite with boundless nature, dark skies and crackling campfires are your thing, then this is the site for you. Please note, access to the site is via a narrow lane.

Hardstanding pitches are available from February and grass pitches are available from March. Glamping is available all year round.

A note from the site themselves...

It has always been our dream to run a campsite, and we just love welcoming guests to our site. It's so fun meeting people from far and wide, and getting to know our regulars who return year on year.

At our site you can really get away from it all and enjoy the great outdoors. We're surrounded by woodland and a short walk from the River Wye. With campfires, no phone signal and wide horizons our guests re-connect with each other and the natural world.

Medium Tent - Grass PitchesSep 2023

We are two friends who hadn't seen each other in a while and fancied a catch up out in the peace and quiet. This was the perfect place. The price point was perfect. We stayed "off-season" but over a weekend. The price reflected this perfectly. Louise was lovely and kind and so helpful. We felt we could pop down to her house, if and when we needed anything at all. The site is well signposted and Louise sent great and easy to follow directions to support us too. The site is part of a small holding with an apple orchard. We bought some apple juice off of Louise and it was one of the highlights of the trip - not too sweet, and tasted of the juiciest apples! Another major positive for us was the convenience of the facilities. We've stayed at some sites where it was a short trek to fill the water tank or pop to the loo. The facilities here are in the field with you. We loved that the toilet/shower cabin was split in two. There's a toilet and a shower each side. It feels more like a bathroom than public conveniences - much more private. There were sponges, soap etc all provided and ample toilet paper - I'm sure we've all been to a campsite that unexpectedly had none! Finally, the location - remote, peaceful, quiet, and tranquil. We were surrounded by trees which functioned as a great windbreak too. It was end of season, but the ground wasn't all churned up by feet and tyres. We went for a walk around the area and the beauty went on for miles. It was the kind of place where you get out of the car and are hit with an instantly reviving breath of fresh air. Our final highlight was the lack of phone service. We completely switched off from the outside world while we were there and, honestly, didn't really want to leave! We loved the site and will definitely be returning!

Small Tent - Grass PitchesMay 2023

What a gorgeous location! We were spoilt with a weekend full of sunny weather but it was the campsite that made our stay so wonderful. The small size was ideal for us, and it was so peaceful. We love basic camping usually and this place somehow felt both basic (in a good way) but also fully catered to at the same time. The facilities were amazing - lovely clean toilets with a couple of hot showers, washing up area with eco conscious bin and recycling situation, but also still felt like we were properly in nature. We cooked our food straight on the campfire which I LOVE doing. Our hosts were very friendly and attentive but not intrusive, we felt very looked after and the place was really clean and well kept. The location couldn't have been more perfect with Monmouth just down the road when we needed to go to a supermarket, there are also various farm shops in the area, so many walks, the most lovely pub on the water was in walking distance (The Boat Inn - prepare for a steep climb back!), and we went to Symonds Yat for an afternoon too. We didn't feel the need to do too much though as the campsite was so nice we didn't want to waste it, could've just as easily spent the whole weekend relaxing there with a book, playing badminton, games and drinking wine. Would absolutely stay again and will recommend to everyone I know who loves camping. Thank you!

Motorhome - Hardstanding PitchMar 2022

Lovely site... the field, water, hot showers, loos and chemical waste disposal, plus a fabulous walk to the pub that sells real cider through ancient woodland. Loads of wood anemones, brimstone butterflies, owls hooting and camp fires. Picnic tables and wonderful owners.

Site's response

Really nice to meet you. Lovely to have a chat round the campfire. Do come again, Louise
