Things to do in Chepstow

First, visit the impressive Chepstow Castle and admire its medieval history. Keen explorers can see the stunning scenery from the castle’s many viewpoints which offer views over the River Wye as well as the surrounding countryside. See if you can find them all.

After admiring the scenery, head to the National Diving and Activity Centre. Kids can enjoy the wire zip slide and take a dive into the waters on a scuba diving session.

You could also have a day at the races at Chepstow Racecourse. Spend the day enjoying the thrills of a close race before whetting your appetite at the restaurant.

Explore the beautiful Welsh coastline as you walk along sections of the Wales Coastal Path while keen walkers can try out the 14 mile journey from Chepstow to Magor. Along the way, you’ll soak up the pretty countryside and medieval castles.

Those wanting a scenic bike ride can head 6 miles from the town’s centre to the ruins of Tintern Abbey. Take in the views of the river from the Wye footbridge before settling down for a picnic amongst the pretty woodland scenery.

Head further along to the Offa’s Dyke Path. Whether you’re looking for a short stroll or a day’s hike, the walk offers incredible scenery from the Brecon Beacons National Park to the Wye Valley. Make a trip to Devil’s Pulpit for the spectacular views over Tintern.

To soak up the history of the town, head to Chepstow Museum. Admire the 18th century paintings as you learn more about life in the town all those years ago. Enjoy one of their workshops while the kids take one (or all) of the museum’s available quizzes.

If it’s a rainy day, let the kids run wild at Whirlikidz. The indoor play area has a 4 lane slide as well as tunnels and bridges for the youngsters to muck about in. Little ones aren’t left out either, as they have their own area to play around in which includes a mini slide!

When the sun is shining, walk along the grounds of Piercefield Park. Bring a packed lunch and enjoy the fresh air as you find a spot to enjoy your picnic and see the ruins of Piercefield House.

After exploring Chepstow, take a short drive to the Wye Valley AONB and walk along the spectacular landscape. Or head west from the town and visit Newport nearby and stroll around the beautiful park surrounding Tredegar House, or head to the Welsh capital and relax at Cardiff Bay.
