About Kitewood Camping

If you are looking to get away from the stresses and strains of modern life, this site could be the perfect choice for your next getaway. Set in 60 acres of magic woodland, with a network of paths to explore, the site provides an idyllic escape from the rest of the world. All of the thirteen pitches are roomy, with space for the biggest tents, an awning and somewhere to sit in the sun. You will have your own compost loo and hot shower, so no sharing with other families, along with a covered fire pit area with a picnic table, so you can still be warm and cosy around the fire even if the weather turns. All firewood is also included in the price of your stay. For glampers, there are two Dragon Tipis available, each decorated with dragons drawn by the talented local artist Jackie Morris and set within a glade of their own. The tipis are perfect for those who would rather just turn up with a bag and avoid the hassle of pitching their tent. Each of the units sleeps up to four guests in a proper double bed and two futons. Inside you will also find a large wicker basket, ideal for storing your luggage, along with side tables to rest your morning coffee. Outside of the tipis, you will have your own fully equipped camp kitchen with everything you need to dish up a hearty full English. You will also have a picnic bench for al fresco dining, a covered fire area and an ensure hot shower and eco loo. The private wood fired hot tub is the perfect place to unwind under the stars in the evening. In the summer holidays, this is largely a family campsite. The woods are well suited to kids as there are massive amounts of space to roam without the worry of cars (the site is car-free except for loading and unloading). Out of school holidays, a lot of couples and young families love this spot for some peace and quiet. Please note, this is a Greener Camping Club site so at least one of your party must be a member, though this can be purchased when you book. Only registered guide dogs are allowed to join on your stay, sorry.

Kitewood Camping is open from 01/05 to 29/09.

A note from the site themselves...

The site first came to be when we decided to create a campsite that allowed guests if only briefly, to return to a slower pace of life. We provide a chance to come away from the screens and watch the glowing flames of a campfire.

Our site forms part of 60 acres of woodland that was planted in 1999. Until 2018, the trees of Kitewood had largely grown untouched and the ground they grow on was un-walked for 14 years. This has meant that wildlife has had a chance to make our location its sanctuary and we see an incredible array of flora and fauna including the red kites for which the woodland is named.

During the week there are normally a couple of free activities that people can drop in and out of. An introductory bushcraft course runs once a week. This is aimed at children and families, teaching the basics of survival including shelter building, fire lighting and knife craft.

One of Pembrokeshire's many great attractions is its beaches and these range from wild isolated beaches to lifeguarded beaches with good facilities. Newgale (25 minutes) is a peaceful sandy beach although people flock here in the summer, the two miles of beach mean that you'll always find space.

Whitesands (25 minutes) is probably Pembrokeshire's busiest beach in the summer. It has a wonderful coast path which leads to some quieter spots for those that fancy exploring. The beach is lifeguarded with a cafe and surf hire available. Swim between the flags to make sure you're in the safest place - there is a permanent rip current at the north end of the beach by the rocks.

Abermawr (10 minutes) is a north-west facing beach and backed by a shingle bank and great woodlands. If you have tired of the crowds this beach could be perfect. There is also some great rock pooling opportunities at low tide.

Freshwater West (55 minutes) is a wild beautiful place which, despite good access, is rarely too crowded. Harry Potter (Shell cottage scene) and the latest Robin Hood (with Russell Crowe) were filmed here.

Walking is hugely popular in Pembrokeshire too. The Pembrokeshire Coast Path (5 minutes) offers 186 miles of award-winning coastal trails and there is also a variety of inland trails taking in woodlands, gorges, hills and moorland. If you fancy something a little different, the team can help you plan a day out.

The Bug Farm (20 minutes) where you can see some of the world's most interesting bugs, and even then try eating some at Grub Kitchen! Head chef Andy Holcroft produces a variety of delicious meals from insects alongside some more traditional non-insect-based meals for those not quite ready for the bugs.

Other nearby attractions include:

  • Castell Henllys Iron Age Village (25 minutes)
  • Pembrokeshire Llamas (35 minutes)
  • Cardigan Castle (35 minutes)
  • Welsh Wildlife Centre (40 minutes)
  • Carew Castle and Tidal Mill (40 minutes)
