Inside its expanse, children and families will find plenty of monkey business at Go Ape, the tree top woodland adventure park with its high flying rope bridges.
After you've worked off all that excitement, the medieval and Elizabethan manor house of Havington Hall is a pleasant place to stroll around the grounds and enjoy afternoon tea. As any good historic spot should, it has an impressive moat and priest hides - which allowed religious figures from the past to squirrell away from their pursuers.
Wondering how the kids kept busy in those days? See the historical toys and games as well as other temporary exhibition at the Worcestershire Country Museum. Best to check Aladdin hasn't left any flying rugs at the town's unique Museum of Carpet too, which weaves an interesting story out of 300 years of industry.
A mile away from the town centre you'll hop aboard the Coalyard Miniature Railway which runs alongside the Severn Valley railway line for a spot of peace and nostalgia. But then it'll be time to break that peace with a trip to the West Midland Safari Park. White lions, giraffes, rhinos and many more - it has it all. Plus there's a chance to walk amongst realistic dinosaurs, take a tour of the ice age and ride high at its adventure theme park. You'll need to allow a full day for the rollercoasters, Desert Convoy, Shark Island and swinging Pirate Ship.
The Gobbet Rare Breeds Farm and Nursery is excellent for younger children and tour of the Drakelow tunnels (which used to be a underground military complex) is a chance to try something truly different. Nearby Stourbridge offers a great brewery and plenty of outdoor activities, and Birmingham is a short drive away for a city break.
