Penwarne Farm is conveniently located between the Helford River and Falmouth. It is surrounded by nature, with views over Pendennis Castle and Falmouth Bay. There are eight local beaches, plenty of walks and many attractions nearby - you'll have the best of Cornwall at your fingertips.

About the site

Nestled amongst Cornish countryside, with sea views out to Falmouth Bay and inland to Pendennis Castle, Penwarne is one of Cornwall's oldest campsites. The Mann family has worked the land since 1886 and has been welcoming campers since the 1920s. If you want camping on the coast, this Cornish farm offers a setting positioned on a footpath to Meanporth beach (around a 30 minute walk away). It overlooks the sea with views across Falmouth Bay, plus there's over eight beaches less than a ten-minute drive away - you'll be spoiled for choice. You'll be pitching up on a working farm, with plenty of room for the children to run around, as well as couples or groups who want to explore the coastline. During high season, the pitches are marked out for 16 amp electric hook-ups. If electric is not required, there is plenty of room for grass pitching in the front of the field. The area is home to an array of wildlife such as pheasants, bats, kestrels and buzzards. Well behaved dogs are welcome, provided they are kept on a lead at all times as the site sometimes has their friendly cattle grazing in the field.

Penwarne Campsite is open from 18/04 to 31/10 in 2025 and from 03/04 to 31/10 in 2026.

Site facilities include free, basic showers and toilets, as well as a children's playpark.

There are several supermarkets in Falmouth, a ten minute drive away. The closest pub is The Red Lion, less than a five minute drive. There are further pubs and restaurants in Falmouth too.

The site does not allow electric vehicle charging unless by prior agreement.

A note from the site themselves...

Penwarne Barton is a working farm, where we have cows, sheep, chickens, pheasants and peafowl on the farm. You may also see our working cats, Bayley and Guinness.

Medium Tent - Electric Grass PitchesAug 2025

Me and 7 friends came here to celebrate finishing our a-levels and it was perfect! We stayed for 4 nights and all had an amazing time. The owners of the campsite were very welcoming and were willing to help out in any way they could. Overall it was a great vibe and would definitely recommend this to any group of friends!

Small Tent - Non Electric Grass PitchesAug 2025

My boyfriend and I stayed here over the August bank holiday weekend and were delighted to find there were still non-electric camping plots available. We had an absolutely fantastic stay and would highly recommend it. The camping area was peaceful and quiet, with plenty of space between us and the other campers. Facilities included toilets, showers, sinks with mirrors, and even a washing machine — all of which were kept to a good standard and more than met our needs. The location is stunning. Each morning we woke up to sea views, with a forest just to the side of us. At night the sky was full of stars, which made it feel magical. One evening we drove into Falmouth for dinner, which was only about 25 minutes away and very convenient. There’s also a lovely walk from the campsite to Maenporth Beach (around 30 minutes through fields) — a beautiful spot that’s well worth the trip on a sunny day. We loved our stay, would definitely recommend this site to others, and can’t wait to return.

Sprinter-Type Campervan - Electric Grass PitchesAug 2025

This site has great views, but is essentially a field you just pitch up in. No staff to greet you or show facilities. Received a text day before directing to facilities, so we had some idea. The showers and toilets are very old, cobwebs and insects in them and they just didn't feel clean.

Site rules

Check-in at Penwarne Campsite is from midday until 7pm for camping/touring and you must vacate your pitch by 11am on day of departure.
Up to three dogs are welcome per pitch at Penwarne Campsite, provided they are kept on a lead whilst onsite, as it is a working farm.
Campfires are permitted at Penwarne Campsite but must be kept raised off the ground, so as not to damage the grass, and well-supervised.
Before you arrive at Penwarne Campsite, you'll receive a text message with instructions for check-in.

Awnings are not permitted at Penwarne Campsite. Gazebos and pup tents can be brought for a small nightly charge.

There are several beaches close to Penwarne Campsite, with direct access to Maenporth beach from the site via a footpath, taking 30 minutes.

The playpark at Penwarne Campsite includes a slide, climbing frame and swings to keep the little ones entertained, and the farm cafe sells a variety of food and drinks for the whole family to enjoy. There are no less than eight beaches within a ten minute drive from the site, and a footpath from the campsite takes you straight to Meanporth Beach, plus there's a variety of other family attractions nearby.
Penwarne Campsite will always try to pitch group bookings together. For non-electric pitches, that's rarely a problem. Due to the layout of the site (see the site plan) with hook-up pitches at the top of the field and the rest of the field used for non-electric, where there is a mix of the two, groups will be pitched close-by but not side-by-side.

Things to do on site and in the Falmouth area

The site is close to Falmouth and the North Helford AONB. Visit Falmouth for the Maritime Museum and Pendennis Castle for history, or take a boat trip down the Fal River.

In the summer, Falmouth welcomes the Oyster Festival, the Sea Shanty Festival and the Tall Ships, all sure to keep guests entertained. Perhaps the most impressive is Falmouth Week, during August, when the Red Arrows usually visit.

You will find a choice of local boat trips and charters that can take you and the family out to see the local seals, dolphins and sea birds. Minky Whales have also been spotted off the coast of Falmouth.

The South West Coast Path is only a mile away, as are the gardens of Trebah and Glendurgan. Explore the local creek side villages of Port Navas and Gweek, which is home to a seal sanctuary.

You can eat out in the numerous restaurants in Falmouth or explore the local village pubs. Grab a pasty and eat it on one of the quays while you watch a hive of water activities go on.

Cornwall is famous for its beautiful beaches with good reason. Visit Gyllyngvase and Swanpool, where paddle boards can be hired or if you are feeling energetic, walk to Meanporth, the closest beach to the site, and hire out a kayak to explore the clear blue Cornish waters.

Helford Passage is a must-see, so hire a boat to explore the river, go crabbing off the pontoon or take the ferry to the other side.
