Oakhill Camping and Caravanning is a quiet and dog friendly site, within 20 minutes of Wookey Hole and Mendip Hills AONB and 30 minutes to Longleat! Oakhill village is ten minutes away with lovely pubs and a bus route to Wells and Bath. Spacious grass pitches with optional electric, as well as electric hardstandings, there is something for every tent and tourer. For those who prefer a solid roof to sleep under, there are also two cabins.

About the site

A peaceful family friendly site on a working farm between untouched fields and woodlands, perfect for stargazing. A great base for exploring Somerset with an abundance of wildlife around the site, well maintained facilities and an honesty shop, it has everything you need. The site offers level grass pitches with optional electric, suitable for caravans, motorhomes and tents. For tourers, there are also electric hardstanding pitches. Set on large fields with goal posts and space for games, it is perfect for kids to play. There are also two heated cabins to choose from. Both cabins have a small kitchen, bathroom and dining area with TV. The kitchen is equipped with an electric hob, a toaster, crockery, a microwave, a sink, a kettle and a fridge freezer. Outside there is a secluded veranda with outdoor seating for some al fresco dining. The Gert Lushing cabin has a double bed, whilst the Country Bumpkin cabin has a king sized bed. Both are child and pet free. Situated in the heart of Somerset campers can relax amongst the beautiful surroundings of the Mendip Hills. Or find something a bit more exhilarating by hiking up Cheddar Gorge or visiting Bath for a day full of history, culture and food! Guests may hire fire pits from the site, and BBQs are encouraged as long as they are raised from the ground. Logs and kindling can be bought from the site. Dogs are welcome on the camping pitches with two fields for walks and various footpaths connected to the site. Sorry, no dogs in the cabins.

There is a shared toilet and shower block as well as a washing up area and a communal kitchen has a freezer, microwave and kettle. Guests staying in the cabin have self contained facilities.

For alfresco group dining, there are picnic benches around the site. There is also a sharing shed with an honesty shop and a book swap .

The nearest shop is the Gurney Slade Stores which is a 30 minute walk, and only a five minute drive. The closest pubs are the Oakhill Inn and the Mendip Inn which are within a 15 to 20 minute walk.

Things to do on site and in the Shepton Mallet area

A great base for exploring Somerset, with the Mendip Hills AONB on the site's doorstep and the ancient Roman city of Bath just a 40 minute drive from the site. Or, visit Stockhill Woods (15 minutes), a national forest, for a day of walking and wildlife spotting.

There is a village pub a ten minute walk away, and also a village shop and cafe open two days a week in an adjoining field. The site is also on the main bus route to Wells and Bath.

If you're visiting with family, a visit to Longleat Safari Park (35 minutes) is a must! Take a walk, or a drive through the safari and meet the monkeys, cheetahs and giraffes! After that, have a go on their railway ride, the playground or the maze!

For those who want to swim, there is the Shepton Mallet Lido just ten minutes away to cool off on a summer's day!
