Venus Campsite is an adult only site in the Yorkshire countryside, located just off the A1 and 15 minutes from Ripon and Thirsk. This peaceful, eco friendly site is perfectly located, just 15 minutes to the Yorkshire Dales, 20 minutes to the North York Moors and 35 minutes to York. Tents, campervans and caravans can choose a grass pitch with or without electric, or park your caravan or motorhome on a fully serviced hardstanding pitch.

About the site

This peaceful, back to basics site is set in the tranquil, Yorkshire countryside and with easy access to surrounding areas, making it a great choice for an overnight stopover or countryside getaway. Choose from electric grass pitches, measuring 8m by 8m, or non electric grass pitches, measuring 6m by 6m. These are suitable for tents, trailer tents, roof tents, campervans and caravans. There are also hardstanding pitches measuring 10m x 8m, all fully serviced with 10 amp electric, water and grey waste disposal. Each pitch is clearly marked with plenty of space to relax and enjoy the countryside views. Don't forget your four legged friends! Up to two pets per pitch are welcome with responsible owners and there are lots of options for local walks and dog walks off site, plus there's a designated dog walking area close by. Sorry, no open fires allowed. Please note that the site does not accept families or groups of four or more people together.

Venus is open from 4th April until 28th May. Grass pitches are open from 13th June to 14th September and hardstanding pitches from 13th June to 2nd November.

The site has toilets and hot showers, as well as a fridge freezer for campers to use and a pot wash with hot water. There is also an enclosed dog walk close to the campsite.

There are several pubs within a ten minute drive and further dining options can be found in nearby Thirsk, a 15 minute drive away. There is a small shop within a five minute drive and you'll find bigger supermarkets in Thirsk.

Site rules and policies

Arrivals after 1pm. Departure by 11am.

Dogs should be kept on leads at all times and exercised off-site.

BBQs are welcome in the rally field and on hardstanding, please use breeze blocks in the field to raise your BBQs.

Dogs welcome, one included in the pitch price. No breeds are under the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Please respect other campers regarding noise levels after 10pm.

Minimum three-night stay on bank holiday weekends for fully serviced and grass electric pitches.

Please note that Steel pegs are required on fully serviced pitches.

No commercial vehicles without prior consent

No generators allowed at all

Only breathable ground sheets are allowed on grass pitches

What time is check-in and check out at Venus?

Guests are able to check-in from 1pm until 7pm, if you are going to be delayed please let the site know. Check out is due before 11am.

Is Venus dog-friendly?

Dogs are welcome with up to two welcome per pitch, one is included in the price of your booking but you can add an extra for just £2. Please ensure dogs are kept on a lead at all times and not left unattended.

Does Venus allow BBQs and campfires?

BBQs are welcome as long as they are raised from the ground, sorry no charcoal BBQs permitted. Campfires are not allowed onsite, sorry.

Does Venus allow awnings, gazebos or pup tents?

You're welcome to bring an awning, gazebo or pup tent with you just please ensure that you select this option when booking. A pup tent must fit within your pitch and only be used for storage. There is a small extra charge.

Does Venus allow groups or pitches being booked together?

The site caters for families and couples only, and does not accept group bookings of 3+ units travelling together, nor hen and stag parties.

What amp is the electric hook up at Venus?

The pitches with electric have a 10 amp hook up.

Is there WiFi at Venus?

No, sorry there is not WiFi at this site.

Does Venus have a shop onsite?

There isn't a shop onsite but there is a small shop a five minute drive away, or for a larger supermarket there are plenty of options in Thirsk which is 15 minutes away.

Is there a restaurant or cafe at Venus?

There isn't a restaurant or cafe onsite but within a ten minute drive there are several pubs for your evening meal.

What are the nearest public transport links to Venus?

Thirsk train station is a ten minute drive away.

Does Venus have electric vehicle charging?

No, sorry there are no electric vehicle charging facilities at this site.

Does Venus have a quiet time or noise policy?

Yes, quiet time is between 10pm and 8am and must be respected.

Things to do on site and in the Thirsk area

You'll be perfectly placed to explore the towns of Thirsk and Ripon here, both a 15 minute drive. The vibrant spa town of Harrogate is just 35 minutes away with shops, restaurants and events and don't miss a visit to the bustling city of York, also just 35 minutes away and home to a range of festivals, museums and, of course, the racecourse.

Walkers, ramblers and cyclists won't want to miss taking in the views in the North York Moors (20 minutes) and Yorkshire Dales (15 minutes), both within easy reach.

History enthusiasts will enjoy Mother Shipton's Cave, Newby Hall and Ripley Castle, all within 25 minutes away. You're also just a 50 minute drive from the historic Castle Howard House and Gardens, with a thousand acres of parkland to discover.
