Things to do in Thirsk
Use Thirsk as your base for exploring the popular Yorkshire countryside spots. Admire the breathtaking scenery on a hike through the Hambleton Hills or head into the North York Moors and stroll along parts of the Cleveland Way.
You’re also not far from the Kilburn White Horse. Look out to this hill figure whilst tucking into a picnic before taking the White Horse walk to burn off those calories.
If the sun isn’t shining, let the little ones run wild in Twiggys Play. Youngsters can enjoy swinging on the ropes or riding down the slides in the indoor play area whilst older members of the family can catch their breath with a hot cuppa.
Afterwards, take the kids to meet the animals at Monk Park Farm. Get up close to the sheep, deer, rabbits and more as you wander through the farm. If the youngsters still have energy to burn, take them to the adventure playground or ride with them on one of the pedal go-karts.
For a different way of seeing the countryside, try out the Boltby Pony Trekking Centre. Ride through the stunning country on your horse – ideal for first time riders looking for a new experience.
To soak up some local history, head to the World of James Herriot. Admire the artefacts and belongings of writer and author James Herriot as you tour the museum and take a tour of a TV studio! Kids can try out the interactive adventure quiz whilst also learning about the life of a vet.
Continue the history tour with a visit to the Thirsk Museum. Walk through the exhibits showcasing the life of cricketer Thomas Lord.
Culture fans should head to the Courthouse. Admire the different works of art on a tour of the centre. Book one of their workshops or grab a bit to eat at the café – the exhibitions change throughout the year so you can see something different whenever you visit.
When you’ve finished seeing the sights in Thirsk, head to Leeds for a city buzz and enjoy a walk around Roundhay Park or roam around the castle in York.
