About the site

The site is tucked into secluded woodland on the beautiful Isle of Purbeck, part of the Rempstone Estate. A family favourite since 1975, it's a 'Swallows and Amazons' affair, with access to 12 acres of fabulous outdoor space to tempt keen walkers and cyclists. There are over a hundred unmarked grass pitches to choose from. From 30 spacious non electric pitches in the main campsite woodland area to 85 spread across the large open camping field, all of which are suitable for tents and small campervans. In a separate field, there are an additional ten grass pitches with electric hook up, also suitable for tents and small campervans. If you're looking to bring your campervan or motorhome, there are five hardstanding pitches available all with electric hook ups! Guests can also opt for one of the bell tents with a double air mattress, two single mattresses, a chest of drawers and a small lantern. Sorry, bedding and towels are not included. Outside are solar lights, a picnic bench, a fire pit and a grill. Please note that the bell tents don't have access to an electric hook up so have no plug sockets or electricity. There are also 22 luxury lodges available all year round. A truly wonderful base to explore Dorset's countryside and Jurassic coast from, with golden sand beaches being just 15 minutes away. Dogs are welcome onsite but please keep them on the lead. Fire pits are allowed to achieve that traditional camping atmosphere, but please make sure they are raised off the ground to avoid damaging the grass.

A note from the site themselves...

Philippa founded the Burnbake site back in 1975 with her landowner husband Ben and his twin brother James. Back then, you would have found her working all hours of the day to make it a success, doing everything from scrubbing the toilet block to checking in guests. Today, you may find her watering the plants at Burnbake and planting greenery, to continue to keep the site looking immaculate.

"I never worked so hard in my life when we set out, when I look back at it now, I wonder how we did it all. It has been an amazing journey." The land that now houses the campsite and lodges was originally a patch of burnt out heathland, known for centuries as Burnbake, hence giving it its name today.
