One of Christchurch's main attractions is its historic architecture, including the beautiful Christchurch Priory Church and the remains of Christchurch Castle, which dates back to 1160 AD, in Norman times.
Highcliffe Castle is also well worth a visit. This Grade I listed hill-top mansion house and gardens was built between 1831 and 1835, and boasts stunning views across to the Isle of Wight.
Another bit of history that's well worth seeing is the ingenious prototype Bailey bridge used during WWII. Combine the engineering and war history with a walk starting at Stanpit Marsh bird sanctuary to take in the local wildlife too.
Across the other site of town, Steamer Point Nature Reserve is also a great place for a stroll.
There's plenty to entertain families here too. A trip to Adventure Wonderland is perfect for those with small children and the family-run theme park has rides and attractions to appeal to children up to 12 years old.
Beachgoers and watersports enthusiasts alike are well catered for at Avon Beach and Highcliffe Beach, or you could take to the shallow waters in Christchurch Harbour with ShoreSports, where you can give kayaking, sailing, windsurfing or stand up paddleboarding (SUP) a go.
Alternatively stick to land and check out the Snowtrax Alpine Activity Centre, which has a range of activities year round including a dry ski slope, ringos (giant inflatable rings that you can race in!), trampolines, a giant fort and swings to name just a few.
On a rainy day, a visit to the Clay Studio will give you the chance to paint your own pottery, while the soft play area at Monkey Madness Christchurch should keep the little ones entertained.
A little out of town, you'll find the New Forest National Park which offers superb opportunities to enjoy horseback riding and cycling trails. Alternatively head to Lymington for a boat trip to the Isle of Wight, or explore bustling Bournemouth and Poole - both has beautiful long sandy beaches and buzzing nightlife.
