A note from the site themselves...

We are situated in a very small village, with only 329 residents in 2001. Up until 1766, we would often have famous visitors stopping off along the way including important figures Queen Elizabeth I and Cardinal Wolsey on their journeys due to our location along the Great North Road. The Cardinal even stayed at the Manor House briefly, after his fall from favour.

The house actually was owned by the Archbishops of York and so was sometimes referred to as a palace. Locals will often be happy to tell you their local tales and show you our points of interest. We hope to welcome you to our little haven soon and share our unique history, Shane
