Things to do in Doncaster

A proper Yorkshire minster town, Doncaster is a beautiful and vibrant, situated to the south east of the city of Leeds on the east coast. It's steeped in over 1800 years of history and has a ruined Roman wall, Norman castles, Regency finery and Saxon churches - something for everyone!

For those interested in exploring some of that fascinating history, beautiful Brodsworth Hall and Gardens is well worth a visit. In this Victorian home, time has stood still for the past 130 years, and visitors will be able to see life as it was. If you want to look a little further back in time, visiting Conisbrough Castle, which dates back to the 12th century, will certainly be a blast. These walls inspired Ivanhoe, so they have plenty of stories to tell, and there are soft grassy areas for a picnic after you're done exploring.

Doncaster Minster stands out brilliantly against the skyline, so come and explore its vaulted ceilings and luscious grounds. Do you love a bargain? You'll be in good company at the town's traditional market, with 400 shops and stalls, plus Doncaster has an immensely popular corner shop, made famous by Ronnie Barker.

Yorkshire's countryside is tip top, so bring your walking boots for fabulous days out in the surrounding greenery. The route from the Fishlake Heritage Trail to Shaw Wood is a gorgeous ramble and you can relax in beautiful scenery. Spot some of the local wildlife, bring a packed lunch and perhaps enjoy a brew with a view.

Looking for a roaring good time? Make a beeline for the Yorkshire Wildlife Park to see one of the largest collections of animals in the UK, from polar bears to lions - it's sure to get the kids grinning. Mingle with over 70 different species, see hungry tigers being fed and get your own cheeky monkeys playing in the super slide barn.

Got itchy feet? Doncaster sits along the A1, known as the Explorers Road, which will take you speeding off to explore both north and south. And when you're not road tripping, take the adventure to nearby Leeds for classic architecture, world food and a water taxi ride on the river.
