Quantock Camping at Lower Toollands is a boutique, family-run site on the edge of the Quantock Hills. Enjoy the comfort and style of one of the spacious glamping units, set in their own beautifully landscaped and quiet area. A place to enjoy nature, with access to a footpath leading you to the Quantocks, the local pub and surrounding countryside. Well behaved dogs are also welcomed.

About the site


Set amongst four acres of beautifully landscaped grounds, this site welcomes families, couples and friends alike. Providing a low-key, casual atmosphere nestled on the edge of the Quantock Hills and teeming with stunning wildlife. The site is home to a variety of glamping accommodations offering luxury, comfort and style. Each is set in their own quiet and landscaped areas, with a fully equipped kitchenette including a fridge, microwave, kettle, cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery, washing up liquid, tea towels. They also come equipped with outdoor seating and dining furniture plus BBQs and fire pits. Outside you'll be able to enjoy the breathtaking views and landscapes from your private seating area and a fire pit. Do note, Hedgehog Pod does not come with bedding and you will need to bring your own, towels are also not provided in any of the glamping units. The Hideaway Shepherd's Hut lives up to its name with its own secluded area and bucolic views. It sleeps four with a kingsize bed and convertible double (memory foam mattresses). Fully stocked kitchenette, a charcoal BBQ (your first bag is complimentary) and a fire pit make it perfect for cooking at your unit. It also have its own private hot outdoor shower. A private half bathroom is a short distance away in a converted railway cargo wagon. The Woodpecker cabin is perfect for families with a double bed and a set of bunk beds plus room inside for a dining table and chairs plus a lodging area. Outside on your private deck is outdoor furniture, a charcoal BBQ (your first bag is complimentary) and a fire pit make it perfect for cooking at your unit. A private half bathroom is a short distance away in a converted railway cargo wagon. The Hedgehog pod sleeps three to four with a convertible double bed, benches on either side and a bunk bed (firm bench mattresses). Outside is a large patio area with outdoor furniture, a charcoal BBQ (your first bag is complimentary) and a fire pit make it perfect for cooking at your unit. A private half bathroom is a short distance away in a converted railway cargo wagon. Owl Shepherd's Hut is a fully restored shepherd's hut that sleeps two with a double bed. Outside on your private patio you will find outdoor furniture, a charcoal BBQ (your first bag is complimentary) and a fire pit making it perfect for cooking at your unit. A private half bathroom is a short distance away in a converted railway cargo wagon. Why not hire the whole or part of the site for a large group get together. Offering a range of options depending on the numbers in the group and permits access to all facilities and accommodations. There are also a number of seasonal pitches with parking available. Roam around the duck pond, woodland walk, dedicated 'bee bank' and wildflower paddock. You'll meet the resident ducks and chickens! Dogs are welcome (as are cats!) in all units apart from Hideaway so you don't have to leave any of your family at home. Duke of Edinburgh groups are also welcome to stay.

Glamping units have private bathroom facilities with a toilet and sink, the shepherd's hut also has a private shower. Guests also have shared use or four individual toilets with basins, an additional block with two ladies toilets and sinks and one urinal in the men's in the seasonal area.

There are also two hot outdoor showers with cubicles and screening for privacy, and there's one indoor hot shower. The main facilities block are heated and have hooks, mirrors and seats.

Facilities also include laundry, a communal BBQ, fire pits and picnic tables.

For places to eat, the site is just a mile from the Rising Sun and a short drive from the Bird in Hand. A short drive away is Bishops Lydeard, where you'll find basic shops, a bakery and a butchers.

Perfect for a one night stay over, for motorhome with electric hook up, easy access, good location and great access to clean facilities. Limited host interactions didn't make our stay any less enjoyable. Would highly recommend. 😊

Wow what can I say, we absolutely loved staying in the Woodpecker Cabin. Attention to detail was perfect - some great walks with the doggies and so so peaceful. Owners were really friendly and helpful. Highly recommended - we will definitely visit again!

FAQ

Check-in is between 2pm and 7pm. If you need to check in outside of these hours, please notify the site. Check out is 10:30am on your day of departure. If there is availability, the site offers a 3pm check out for a small fee.

Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead at all times and not left unattended. If the top post and rail paddock is empty, dogs are allowed off lead for a run! Please note there are animals onsite. Do not let your dogs chase the sheep. In summer months, all dogs are required to be on a lead on the Quantocks.

Open fires are not allowed, but the site provides complimentary fire pits. If you are using your own fire pit or BBQ, please keep it raised off the ground so the grass is protected. Please do not place disposable BBQs or other hot items such as kettles or saucepans on the picnic tables or directly on the grass. All fire pits must be extinguished by 11pm.

A maximum of one car per pitch is permitted except by prior agreement.

Bedding is provided in the Owl Shepherd's Hut and the Hideaway Shepherd's Hut only.

Not onsite, but there is a Co-op Food ten minutes away by car.

The Farmers Arms is a 20 minute stroll away from the site, serving food and drinks.

Please let the site know if you have an electric car so they can let you know where to charge it. There is a £15 fee for an all-day or all-night charge.

There should be no noise between the hours of 11pm and 8am, and no sitting out after 11pm. All fires in the fire pits must be extinguished safely.

If you are planning on having day visitors, please let the site know in advance. There is a fee of £5 per car, and visitors must leave by 10pm.


Things to do on site and in the Taunton area

The site is only a mile from the Quantock Hills, which can be reached by road or a scenic footpath. Once here, experience beautiful landscapes, living up to their designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty status.

The West Somerset Railway has 20 miles of heritage railway through stunning Somerset countryside and coastline all the way to Minehead, making it Britain's longest heritage line - jump aboard at the local village of Bishops Lydeard.

Marvel at the fossils dotted along the truly fascinating Jurrasic coastline of Kilve Beach. Your visit wouldn't be complete without stopping for a cream tea at the Chantry Tea Gardens or the Rocking Horse at Stogumber.
