Great location nearby York with plenty of things around (shops, cinema etc), there's a bus outside which takes you directly to York, a lovely cafe on site.
It's a long and thin campsite but they've definitely made the best of the space they've got. It's peaceful and quiet, and was very cost effective (£56 for two days and an electric hook up).
Some downsides: there is no reception or permanent staff on site, ultimately not a massive deal as the communication was good via email beforehand, so no problem getting onto site or anything like that. However; it's an adult only site that doesn't accept hen parties or stag dos (according to the listing) but there was definitely children on site and a group of men (one dressed as a bride) which certainly suggests a stag do! I believe this is directly due to the lack of staff presence monitoring site.
The facilities in regards to the bathroom were fine; not too far from the tent pitches like the other reviews were suggesting, however they should have more cleaning sessions scheduled by the end of our two night stay as there were no paper towels in the bathrooms and the floors were quite dirty. Definitely not the worst place we've stayed but some room for improvement. What was terrible, however, was the location of the bathrooms to the septic tank - which smelt absolutely diabolical! I feel bad for any caravan that was pitched nearby it was very overwhelming (god only knows what it's like when it's hot and sunny!)
The camp pitches were good, the ground was nice and well kept. There was a portaloo nearby for tent users which was beneficial (but no light inside which made it tough to use!). Downside with the tent area is that it's very small, the tents are sharing electric hook ups and they are therefore very closely located. I personally prefer a location that offers more privacy between tents, but this wasn't possibly on this site.
Overall, a good stay and if in that area, we will likely return.
Great and peaceful place, would stay again!
