Strawfields is a small, friendly campsite in a fabulous location, ten minutes from Ilfracombe and 15 minutes from Woolacombe. Exmoor National Park and Croyde are also 20 minutes away, a perfect location for walkers, surfers and families. It is a natural, rustic campsite with cosy, rustic shepherd's huts. Onsite, you can meet alpacas, goats, ponies and enjoy pop up pizza nights every Saturday during summer!

About the site

Experience the magic of an eight-acre rustic campsite in the heart of the North Devon countryside. The site offers a charming, relaxed, and friendly atmosphere just minutes away from Devon's best surfing beaches and coastal paths. The small campsite features ten spacious grass pitches, perfect for those seeking an authentic wild camping style experience with modern comforts. Hire a fire pit and spend your evenings stargazing by your own private campfire. You can enjoy back to nature glamping, like camping, but without having to bring a tent! Experience all the joys of real camping but with the luxury of comfy beds, covered kitchen/seating areas and wood burners to keep you toasty. All the huts have their own hot showers and wee shack, hammocks, solar lights, USB sockets and campfire tripod with grill and frying pans, and cooking utensils. A great hideaway for couples/families or a peaceful, hidden retreat for solo travellers. There's even a fire pit to cook outside. This is a safe space for solo travellers, a romantic, relaxing, quiet place for couples and a family friendly fun area for children to play. Sit back and relax in your hammock in your own private space, read a book while the children enjoy playing in the wonderful space around you. There are no cars allowed on site and the area is fenced to keep everyone safe. Sorry no dogs allowed on the campsite or in the huts to protect the natural wildlife and animals on site.

Natural rustic facilities include a wooden block with hot showers and flushing loos. There's not any electricity in the camping field, but guests are able to charge mobile phones at the farmhouse, and use facilities to freeze ice blocks.

The huts have USB sockets and private hot showers. Cars are parked at the entrance, where you will find wheelbarrows available to transport tents and camping gear to your pitch. Pop up pizza nights in the school holidays. There is also an EV charger but you must book a slot to use it.

A public footpath running directly behind the site takes you across the fields to the local village of West Down, which boasts a well stocked community village shop and a great local pub (around a one mile walk across fields).

What time is check-in and check out at Strawfields?

Check-in for the campsite tent pitches is from 2pm to 9pm, and check out in by 11am please. For the glamping accommodation options, you can check-in between 4pm and 9pm and check out is by 10am.

Is Strawfields dog-friendly?

Unfortunately no dogs are allowed in the camping field, huts or yurts, unless they are guide or support dogs.

Does Strawfields allow BBQs and campfires?

BBQs are allowed, provided they are gas and over 50cm from the ground. You can also hire fire pits on site which have a grill rack available. All fires must be extinguished before going to bed and have a bucket of water kept next to them. Sorry, you cannot bring your ow fire pit and no disposable BBQs are allowed.

Does Strawfields allow group bookings?

Unfortunately the site does not allow large group bookings. There is a maximum of two pitches, glamping tents, yurts or huts allowed per group.

Is the Strawfields café open all year?

The Café Barn will be open during the camping season, but it is not guaranteed it will be open everyday due to it being a small site. It is usually open for breakfasts Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.

People often ask us what makes Strawfields so special. For us, it's the quiet moments - the sound of the stream, animals grazing and crackling campfires at night. A place where you can actually hear the birds, finish that book you've been carrying around, and remember what it feels like to just be.

We've created this space to be exactly what we look for in a holiday: rustic, friendly, and close to nature. We live here too, and we never get tired of seeing our guests truly switch off. We can't wait to share our slice of North Devon with you!

Onsite you'll find the best of both worlds, lots of space to play, streams to explore, and adventures to be had, whilst only being a few minutes away from the wonderful North Devon coastline.

Hidden among the trees, you will find a stream, slide, climbing net and a large grass area for ball games. There are lots of friendly animals that you are welcome to come and meet, including ponies, pigs, goats, sheep and beautiful alpacas.

There are also a variety of animal experiences, specially tailored for guests onsite, including family farm tours and goat agility!

North Devon has so much to offer, breathtaking scenery and a plethora of activities for all ages and abilities. You will love discovering the local area, whatever the weather.

There is much to see and do, including four wonderful golden sandy beaches, Woolacombe, along with many coves and rock pooling beaches.

It is a great place for walking, sand castle building, bodyboarding, kayaking, surfing, SUP, dune sledging, horse riding, biking, quad biking and coasteering. Close by, the Tarka Trail offers a family friendly bike riding route.
