Things to do in Woolacombe
Undoubtedly, Woolacombe's greatest attraction is the stunning Woolacombe Beach. Considered not only one of the UK's best beaches but also one of the top beaches in Europe, this beautiful three mile stretch of sand will score highly with all visitors.
In addition to building sandcastles, bathing and enjoying seaside strolls, why not get involved in other great activities too. You'll find plenty of opportunities to test your skills at surfing, kayaking and coasteering. Lifeguards are on hand to keep you safe and surfers are well catered for with great waves and clean water.
Woolacombe Surf Centre offers surfing, windsurfing and kitesurfing lessons and rentals, as does Hunter Surf School. Those who may be even more adventurous can even visit Fly Like a Bird for thrilling tandem hang gliding flights if the weather permits. Woolacombe Riding Stables is also on hand to help you explore the local area, offering horse-riding trips for all abilities for a great family day out.
A little further along the coast, the pretty Barricane Beach is a great place to check out rockpools and there is a delicious café there too. The many pubs and restaurants within Woolacombe itself are also a haven for tired beachgoers and sightseers, serving up a selection of brilliant local ales and culinary treats.
Animal lovers will enjoy a trip to the wonderful Borough Farm. This family friendly attraction has sheepdog and falconry displays, fun farmyard shows and shepherding experience walks which will delight young and old alike, all set on a working farm with over 600 sheep and 50 cattle.
Nearby you'll find the village of Mortehoe, and the Mortehoe Museum which offers an interesting look into local history. Or travel a little further to Ilfracombe for one of the boat tours. Families will love a day out at Watermouth Family Theme Park and Castle, while nature lovers must not miss a trip to Lundy Island via the ferry.
