Things to do in Barnstaple
History enthusiasts, music lovers and outdoor lovers alike will have a brilliant time in Barnstaple.
Top attractions include Exmoor Zoo (with its family of wild cats that the kids will enjoy meeting) and Arlington Court, which is a renowned National Trust site and has extensive grounds including a deer park - make a day of it and pack a picnic.
Broomhill Sculpture Park is also nearby, which has a range of modern sculptures set in stunning grounds, and Rock Park will keep little ones entertained for hours with its skatepark and adventure trails. Adults and teenagers can tone up on the Trim Trail - an outdoor gym - and tennis courts.
Ideal for rainy days, Funderzone soft play park is located a couple of miles from Barnstaple, or equally you could check out Lets Go Bowling and skatepark with older ones.
If it's walks you would like, then you’re spoilt for choice in Barnstaple as the nearby Heddon Valley will reward your efforts with beautiful views at Heddon's Mouth Bay, as well as a delicious local beer from the charming Hunters Inn Pub.
Cyclists can also enjoy a number of cycling and walking routes in the surrounding area of Tarka Trail, with bike hire available through Tarka Trail Cycle Hire and Biketrail Cycle Hire.

End a great day in Barnstaple by checking out one of the great restaurants on offer in the town, which serve up a range of locally grown produce. Those without kids can hit the pubs afterwards and catch some live music.
Nearby you'll find the seaside resort of Westward Ho!, which has a fantastic beach (with mini golf!) and is particularly popular during the summer months. Bideford, Woolacombe, Ilfracombe and Croyde are also all close at hand.
