About the site

This tent only campsite has a classic, back-to-basics vibe. It is set on a small flat field situated at the top of the Mendip Hills, accessed by a small, bumpy lane. Pitches are all on grass and are surrounded by woodland where you can spot wildlife. Parking is a short walk from the pitches, with wheelbarrows for transporting your things. If you don't want to bring your tent with you, then opt for one of the batch bell tents. The 5m all-weather bell tents each sleep up to six, complete with campbeds and self inflatable mattresses for four (bedding is not provided). You will also be provided with a table and chairs and a camp kitchen with utensils. Outside, you will also find your own solar shower and steel fire pit with a griddle. The site welcomes BBQs and can supply tasty produce and meat for you to cook. There are also communal fire pits dotted around the camping field. Dogs are welcome.

The Batch Campsite is open from 27/03 to 12/10. Pitches from £24/night for 2 people.

Small Tent - Non Electric Grass PitchesAug 2026

I had a great time at The Batch campsite! I was a bit nervous about driving up the narrow lane to get to the campsite, but my car and I made it in one piece and it was definitely worth it! The camping field itself is surrounded by trees and bushes and the small number of pitches makes it feel lovely and peaceful. However, if you want even more peace and quiet there is an orchard with hammocks, which is a perfect spot to read your book as the sun sets (as long as you don't mind occasional noise from the chickens!) The facilities included three toilets and two showers which seemed to be the right amount for the number of people staying there. I never had to queue for the shower. It was also great to have the communal fridges/freezers. There was even a kettle! Tim (the owner) was also really lovely and always came round the campsite at least once a day to check that everyone was doing okay. He also had plenty of recommendations for food and walks locally! I managed to do three different walks from the campsite - my favourite places that I visited were Rowberrow Warren (lots of trees, good paths, but watch out for the mountain bikers!) and Wavering Down (lovely views). Dolebury Warren is also really close to the campsite if you don't want to walk quite as far! For food, I would definitely recommend a lunch at The Crown - I had a great veggie chilli! I really enjoyed my stay at The Batch and would definitely love to come back here again.

Lovely small site

Small Tent - Non Electric Grass PitchesAug 2026

Tim the owner is very helpful and willing to help out. When I managed to get my car caught in a rut he towed me out - thanks, Tim! The washblock area is good, except that the shower soaks any clothes or towel you put in there. Water is hot almost straight away. You have to press a button every few seconds, which saves water. Eco-friendliness is a strong thing at this site. Almost everything can be recycled, it just needs people to be prepared to sort out their rubbish. The location is great for walking, with places such as Cheddar only a few miles away.
