Things to do in Burnham-on-Sea
Although Burnham-On-Sea Pier is Britain's shortest pier, it retains its Edwardian features and elegance. The pavilion stands in the centre of the esplanade and is, quite rightly, very much the central feature of Burnham-On-Sea's pleasantly uncluttered seafront.
A few short steps from the pier you’ll find yourself on the award-winning Burnham beach, one of eight beaches in the area. This is a great swimming and paddling beach which also offers donkey rides.
Burnham South Beach offers sand near the jetty, with pebbles, mud and marshland further south near the River Parrett while Burnham North Beach has a mixture of sand and mud with a natural sea water boating pool that is great for children.
Beach Lighthouse Area is the start of a six-mile length of beach offering wide-open expanses of sand with dunes at the top of the beach. You must see the famous lighthouse on wooden stilts.
Other notable beaches include Berrow Beach, Breach Beach, Brean Down and the River Axe Estuary.
Fun City at Brean Leisure Park, The South West’s largest theme park with over 40 fantastic rides and attractions including thrilling roller-coasters and family friendly boat rides, dodgems and so much more! There are designated baby, toddler and mega zones of play to ensure that every age can make the most of the Fun City at Brean Leisure Park.
Brean Play is a fantastic indoor play centre also located at Brean Leisure Park.
Also within Brean Leisure Park is Brean Splash, offering the ultimate indoor or outdoor water-based fun! This huge waterpark has an indoor splash zone for those days when it’s just too cold to swim outside.
For a more relaxed day out try Apex Leisure and Wildlife Park, it covers approximately 42 acres and a county wildlife site, there are many different sections to Apex, including fishing, a skate park, BMXing and many walking routes. Fishing and bird watching are popular here.
Brean Down Tropical Bird Gardens. Just off the beach you will find these beautiful gardens with aviaries full of colourful tropical birds from all over the world that are sure to amaze you.
Somerset’s coast and countryside is full of many hidden spots, spectacular views and places to spot wildlife.
Brean Down, a natural pier with dramatic cliffs and Victorian fort. Venture to the top of the Down and take the exhilarating 1.5 mile walk along Somerset’s greatest natural pier. The views from the top are truly spectacular, looking out over the Bristol Channel towards South Wales and over the Somerset Levels.
Uncover the secrets of Brean Down as you discover the site of a Roman temple and explore the Palmerston Fort.
Looking for a farm with a difference? Animal Farm Adventure Park has the animals and an all-weather play barn. There are plenty of action activities outside with trampolines, panning for treasure, a hill slide, an agility course, army style assault course and a zip slide.
At Middlemoor Water Park you find a super friendly crew of aquatic masters offering expert tuition to get you started on their water ski, wakeboard, jet ski and karting facilities.
Slightly further afield is the coastal town of Weston-Super-Mare, offering an aquarium, grand pier, laser tag, go karting, crazy golf and much more.
