Rame, Torpoint, Cornwall

+ 2 photos

This back to basics campsite is maintained with the greatest respect to nature, providing a natural camping experience with seaward views towards Cawsand Bay and the moors. From Maker Camp it's only a few minutes walk to the beaches and villages of Kingsand and Cawsand, once a popular haunt of smugglers and now unspoilt by time with their narrow streets and colour-washed cottages.

About Maker Camp

Located in Cornwall's Forgotten Corner on the stunning Rame Peninsula, here you'll find back-to-basics camping in unspoilt surroundings. However, the site is still close to local shops and pubs, galleries, cafes and many attractions. The grass camping pitches are unmarked, and split into two areas - quiet and family camping, alongside group camping. Everyone takes into account the personal space and views of other pitches when setting up camp, so that your holiday is the best that it can be. Campfires are welcome in designated fire pits. Logs available by the sack from the reception shed. Groups and families are welcome. This site is non-profit making, with all of the money received from the campsite being re-invested into to the Rame Conservation Trust.

The site opens officially from Good Friday until the end of September, but a small number of pitches are available at a discount from the end of March.

Unmarked grass camping pitches with incredible coastal views. The site is a little exposed, so a sheltered spot next to the edge is recommended.

Unfortunately Maker Camp doesn't share their availability calendar with us yet. Availability changes quickly, especially in summer, so we recommend enquiring by phone to avoid missing out.

Arrival times are flexible, but, during high season, please arrive after midday.

We do like to restrict the movement of vehicles on the site after 8:00pm, so please contact us if you are likely to arrive later and we will try to guide you on arrival.

We love dogs, but we do insist that all are kept under control at all. If you have a yappy dog, it is probably best to save any distress by not bringing it.

We do encourage children to enjoy and explore the site so we wouldn't like them to find any nasty surprises, so, we do insist that all dog waste is cleared up immediately by the owners

It's good to socialise with family and friends, but please switch off all radios etc no later than 10:00pm and allow nature to take over.

Above all please be sensitive to other people's views and respect your neighbour's needs.

The site is a 10 minute walk from fishing villages Kingsand and Cawsand, with lovely beaches, pubs and restaurants.

The South West Coast Path offers great walks to Rame Head and the hugely popular sandy beach at Whitsand Bay, which is also less than a 10 minute drive away.

With so much coastline on hand, it's no surprise that you can kayak in the ocean blue, take a dip into wild swimming, fish at local beaches and creeks or even take a Segway tour to save your feet.

Plymouth is accessible via foot passenger ferry from Cawsand or Cremyl. Visit Plymouth Hoe, Barbican, National Marine Aquarium and more.

Mount Edgcumbe is just a few minutes' walk away. Looe is 35 minutes away and the Eden Project can be reached in approximately 45 minutes.
