Set in the stunning Ullswater Valley, award-winning Hillcroft Park is an ideal base for exploring the Lake District, 15 minutes from Penrith. Families and couples can choose electric grass or hardstanding pitches, camping pods, or a cosy ensuite glamping pod. Spend days playing ball games, meeting animals, racing around the play area, and tackling table tennis, before grabbing local produce from the licensed shop for the perfect BBQ!

About the site


Set in the Lake District, this peaceful countryside escape has easy access to outdoor activities and walking routes. A short ten minute stroll leads to the charming village of Pooley Bridge, with a pub, cafe, and restaurant. Ullswater is a 20 minute walk away, offering boat hire and a range of watersports at Ullswater Wake and Surf, including paddleboarding, kayaking, wakesurfing, and more! Angle Tarn Camping Field features electric grass pitches for tents, set among the glamping pods. Crummock Water is situated beside the facilities block, with hardstanding pitches that all include electric hook ups. Five of these also have water, and some have views across the lake. At the top of the site, Buttermere Touring Field offers five fully serviced hardstanding pitches, complete with electric hook ups, water, grey waste, and space to set up a table and chairs. The eight camping pods, five of which are dog friendly, sleep two adults and three small children. It includes a carpet, light, heater, plug socket and decking area. Please bring everything else you would need, minus the tent, including bedding and towels. For those seeking extra comfort, the ten ensuite glamping pods, two of which are dog friendly, sleep four and include a 5' bed, ensuite bathroom, dining area, L-shaped sofa bed, and a kitchenette with a fridge, oven, kettle, toaster, and an induction two-ring hob. Please bring your own bedding, towels, crockery, cutlery, and cooking equipment. Lodges and static caravans are also available. Dogs are welcome to join your stay on the pitches and in selected glamping or camping pods. BBQs are allowed as long as they are raised off the ground.

Facilities include 15 toilets, six urinals, and 19 hot showers with disabled access, as well as hair dryers and baby changing facilities. Two private bathrooms are available for hire. The laundry room has two coin-operated washers and dryers, as well as a drying room for wet boots and outdoor gear. There is also a wash-up area and a communal freezer.

The play area is near the entrance, along with outdoor table tennis and football tables, as well as a recreational field for ball games. A dog wash is available for muddy paws. EV charging is available.

The licensed onsite shop sells a range of local produce, including sausages, eggs, bacon, bread, milk, camping essentials and more. WiFi can be used for a small charge.

During peak season, food trucks, including a pizza van and a chippie van, visit the site. The Pooley Bridge Inn is a ten minute walk away for food and drink.

Things to do on site and in the Penrith area

Located in the Ullswater Valley, the area offers walks for all abilities, many of which are great for bringing your four-legged friends along. The Ullswater Way is a well-known 20-mile circular route that loops around the lake and can be joined from any point, in either direction. To save some energy, hop on an open-top bus or take a Ullswater Steamers (20 minutes) across the water.

Penrith is a 15 minute drive away for an easy day trip. You can explore the ruins of Penrith Castle, once home to Richard III, or relax with a picnic in Castle Park nearby. Lowther Castle and Gardens is 20 minutes away, offering castle ruins, gardens, a cafe, and a shop.

Aira Force, one of the Lake District's most popular spots, is just 20 minutes from the site, offering a stunning waterfall, woodland trails, and several viewpoints. Stock Ghyll Force is around 50 minutes away.
