About Tarka Trail Camping

The Tarka Trail is inspired by Henry Williamson's famous novel 'Tarka The Otter' and this site is the ideal spot to explore the wonderful countryside along the famed trail. You're in the perfect place to relax and unwind, so set up camp in your tent and enjoy the coastal views and wildlife on seven acres of lush greenery. Well behaved dogs welcome. A handy bus stops close by for those looking to leave the car behind and BBQs are also permitted. This base is a short walk from the golden sands of Instow Beach and close to the surfing beaches of Westward Ho!, Woolacombe and Saunton.

Tarka Trail Camping is open from 23/03 to 29/09.


Facilities and amenities

Facilities include toilets and showers, plus charging points for mobile phones. Bike hire is available along the Tarka Trail.

The Yelland Manor Brewery is situated next to the camping field and there are many cafes, pubs and restaurants within walking distance. There is also a bus stop at the top of the road.

We are proud to be a family-run campsite, fortunate enough to be in such a stunning location with direct access to the South West Coast Path. It has been great to share our lovely campsite with some wonderful visitors and it is our pleasure to welcome them back time and time again.

FAQ

Check-in is from 2pm until 6:30pm and you must vacate your pitch by 11am on your last day.

Yes, up to two dogs are welcome per pitch, provided they are kept on a lead whilst onsite and are not a breed/crossbreed listed under the Dangerous Dogs Act. There's easy access to the Tarka Trail for dog walking, as well as direct access to South West Coast Path.

BBQs are welcome here, provided they are raised off the ground so as not to damage the grass - open campfires are not permitted.

This is an ideal starting point for walks along the Tarka Trail, easily accessed from the site with 30 miles of traffic free cycling stretching between Braunton and Meeth. You'll also benefit from direct access to the South West Coast Path here too, ideal for soaking up Devon's idyllic coastline. The seaside village of Instow is just two miles away, where you can wander the golden sands of its beach before whetting your appetite at the variety of eateries here. Don't miss a cruise aboard the ferry to Appledore! Bird watchers are within easy reach of the RSPB Reserve at Isley Marsh, or pack a lunch and enjoy a picnic at Fremington Quay.

The location invites many activities such as walking, cycling and birdwatching.

The RSPB Reserve of Isley Marsh is a stone's throw away for the enthusiastic birdwatchers among you. Take a stroll down to the historic Fremington Quay or enjoy a tasty meal at one of the restaurants in Instow and soak up the view.

Instow is in walking distance and boasts the North Devon Cricket Club with its thatched roof and views towards Appledore. The village also has a sailing club and a small ferry that crosses the River Torridge to Appledore (weather permitting).

Visit Barnstaple with its iconic 'Butchers Row' and Pannier Market or the maritime port of Bideford, Britain's third largest port in the 16th century.

There are also many beaches within easy reach as well as glorious Exmoor - you're spoilt for choice!

Hop aboard the Oldenburg at Bideford and sail to Lundy Island for the day (Puffin Island) and take in the wildlife and dramatic views in the Bristol Channel.
