Owl Valley Glamping is an off-grid eco friendly site. The valley is home to a bell tent, two cabins and a geodome, widely spaced and private. Each a five minute walk from your car, you will feel like you are miles from anywhere, despite actually being less than two miles from Bideford, Westward Ho! and Appledore. A wildlife pond with a slate-bedded stream runs alongside the valley, and a comfortable and quiet retreat awaits you.

Off-grid, back to basics, eco friendly site with an idyllic onsite wildlife pond

Located on North Devon's coastline, just a short drive from Westward Ho! Beach

Beautiful glamping choices including a geodome with a wood-fired hot tub

About Owl Valley Glamping

Set in its own valley with a pretty slate-bedded stream running alongside, Owl Valley is just five to ten minutes from Bideford, Westward Ho!, Appledore and the rest of the glorious North Devon coast. Home to a variety of cosy glamping accommodation from a bell tent to cabins and even a geodome. The Barn Owl Cabin is the perfect option for up to four people. The Tawny Cabin sleeps five across a king sized bed, two single futons and a small sofa bed. For larger groups the Long Eared Geodome sleeps six. Each on a platform and lit with solar fairy lights, equipped with beds, pillows, bedding (bedding for the single beds in the bell tent is not provided), blankets, pots, pans, crockery and cutlery. Enjoy your own private bathroom facilities with composting toilets. For ultimate luxury the Barn Owl and Tawny cabin and the Long Eared geodome all have their own private wood fired hot tub! Owl Valley was once run as a private nature reserve, and staff do their best to keep the valley natural and a good place for wildlife and people to stay. If you want a complete break from the stresses of today's life then this is the place to come. There is no WiFi, no phone signal (mostly), and no electricity. Just lots of outdoor fun! Sorry, no pets are permitted on site.

The cabins are available all year round. The geodome is available between March and October.

Facilities and amenities

There is a large campfire sited in the old quarry, with logs provided, and, in the hut up on the old carriageway, there is a kettle/pizza BBQ for your use. On rainy days, the recreation shack has gas rings, a log burning stove and a washing up area for guests. Darts and lots of games and books are available inside, too. Staff will provide you enough logs for your stay free of charge, but if you need more they can be purchased at the small honesty shop, along with eggs, milk and other essentials.

The nearest pub is the Crealock Arms, about a mile away, going uphill on the way and downhill on the way back.

A note from the site themselves...

Under our ownership (Chris and Lesley), exploring Owl Valley continues to be a magical experience both in essence and style. Inundated with work and responsibilities, we lose ourselves in the hustle and bustle of everyday life. A glamping experience is precisely what you need to break out of the rut and find yourself again, believe us - we're living proof.

At Owl Valley, we recognise that the beauty and serenity of nature are invaluable, and we are lucky that we get to experience it in all its glory. Therefore, we strive to minimise our environmental impact and keep our trip as eco-friendly as we can. We try to reuse and recycle wherever possible and ask our guests to join us in helping to preserve our special piece of the countryside. We urge our happy campers to join us in our mission and ensure that the valley retains its raw and pristine beauty.

Bell Tent - Short Eared Bell TentMay 2022

The hosts were amazing, super accommodating and sorted us out with a hot tub even though we didn't book one. It's run by a lovely family and the accommodation had everything that we needed. Set in the middle of the forest, surrounded by nature and you could hear the birds all day. Would love to stay again. Highly, highly recommend staying here. The weekend went way too fast!

Glamping Dome - Long Eared GeodomeMar 2022

Owl Valley Glamping was perfect. We stayed in the stargazing dome which has the most perfect name, with the clearing in the trees to watch the thousands of stars go by at the night. The dome was clean and homely, it was incredibly relaxing, amazingly quiet and the owners were some of the loveliest people I have ever met, I can't wait to go back! Also the name "Owl Valley" became apparent at night time when all the owls came out, which was amazing. A very natural calm environment, perfect to get away from everything and anything.

Perfect, escape to nature

Bell Tent - Short Eared Bell TentJul 2023

We had a lovely stay, it was nice and secluded amongst the trees next to the stream. We had our own facilities. It was comfortable, having a hot shower alfresco was amazing. Chris was an brilliant host and very accommodating. It was very relaxing, perfect to be in nature, especially in the rain. We will definitely recommend it.

Much of what there is to do on site revolves around nature: pond dipping, bird and butterfly watching (cool dragonflies too!) and more. The nature box has information fishing nets and jars - for your catch! The site's porch overlooking a stream is a good place to sit and read or watch the wildlife go by.

Because this is an off-grid site, it is dark at night and a torch is a must. As ever in this part of the country, the stars on a clear night are amazing so stargazing is an absolute thrill.

Away from the site, there is so much to do in this part of Devon:

  • Surfing at Westward Ho!, Bude and Croyde, along with many other water sports
