About Strawfields

Strawfields is an eight acre rustic and charming campsite with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere in a fantastic location. Snuggled in beautiful North Devon countryside, the site is only a few minutes drive from the sea for those that want to surf or explore the wonderful local beaches. It offers a back to nature style of camping and glamping. The micro campsite has just six large pitches, with fire pits available to hire to enjoy your very own campfire. Crafted by local carpenters, the shepherd's huts are both unique and quirky, with bespoke handcrafted beds, covered seating areas and wood burners to keep you toasty. The shepherd's huts give you all the joys of camping with the added luxuries of a comfy bed with duvet and a wood burner. All the huts have their own hot showers and wee shack, roll down canvas awnings, hammocks, solar lights, USB sockets and campfire tripod with grill and frying pans, and cooking utensils. For adults only, there are two lovely huts, The Hut and Lily Pad. Both offer a small and cosy space - a great hideaway for couples or peaceful hidden retreat for solo travellers. Bring a good book and truly switch off and relax. There's even a wood-burner to keep you warm inside and a fire pit to cook outside. This is a safe space for solo travellers, a romantic relaxing quiet place for couples and a family friendly fun area for children to play. Sit back and relax in your hammock in your own private space, read a book while the children enjoy playing in the wonderful space around you. There are no cars allowed on site and the area is fenced to keep everyone safe. If you are looking for a quiet campsite in a beautiful setting, close to the sea and enjoy sitting around a campfire toasting marshmallows, Strawfields could be just the place for you! Sorry no dogs allowed on the campsite nor in the huts to protect the natural wildlife and animals on site.

Strawfields is open from 17/05 to 25/08.

Facilities and amenities

Natural rustic facilities include a wooden block with hot showers and flushing loos. There's not any electricity in the camping field, but guests are able to charge mobile phones at the farmhouse, and use facilities to freeze ice blocks.

The huts have USB sockets and private hot showers. Cars are parked at the entrance, where you will find wheelbarrows available to transport tents and camping gear to your pitch. Pop up pizza nights in the school holidays.

A public footpath running directly behind the site takes you across the fields to the local village of West Down, which boasts a well stocked community village shop and a great local pub (around a one mile walk across fields).

A note from the site themselves...

We are the Straw family, your hosts here at Strawfields. Back in 2014, we'd been dreaming of making the move to Devon for ages. Finally, that summer, we decided to turn that dream into a reality. So, we waved goodbye to Hook Norton in Oxfordshire, but not before soaking up the annual Beer Festival - we couldn't leave 'Hooky' without that!

The very next day, we sadly said our farewells to all our wonderful friends, crammed ourselves, and everything (yes, including the kitchen sink) into the car. For the first couple of months, we embraced a nomadic lifestyle, living it up in our trusty old bell tent. We roamed all over Devon, Cornwall, Wales, and even hopped across the channel to France.

But, as the school term loomed, it was time to find a more permanent home and start a new chapter in our lives. We kicked things off by renting a place in Braunton for the first six months. Then, we stumbled upon West Stowford Barton - an absolute gem. That's where Strawfields was born.

So, here we are, ready to share our little slice of paradise with fellow adventurers like you. We can't wait to welcome you to our camping spot in North Devon. It's been quite the journey, and we're thrilled to have you along for the ride. Cheers to new friends and unforgettable moments around the fire pit!
