A note from the site themselves...

As farmers we love the land and are out everyday, all day working on it. Our farm is in a south facing valley looking up to the Wessex Ridgeway and is full of our livestock grazing. Everywhere you look there will be an animal looking right back at you!

We love Dorset and wouldn't want to live anywhere else especially as we have the coastline so close too. We hope you get to come and enjoy it for yourselves, Verity

Bell Tent - Fully Furnished Bell TentsAug 2023

Took my 2 boys (age 7 & 9) and stayed in a furnished bell tent. We couldn't have asked for more from our stay. The kids loved the mini landiies, the games room and the breakfast baps. They also got to see piglets and stroke 2 newborn goats. The owners couldn't be more welcoming and friendly and the food and coffee were delicious. My only request would be to have the grass a bit shorter (or shorter grass walkways from tents to toilets) as our feet were always soaking from the long grass…. but then it is camping, so can't really complain! If we holiday over that way again, we'd definitely book another stay!

Site's response

Thank you so much! Totally agree about the long grass. The rain and short dry spells made it tricky this year and we were working against the weather and grass gods to keep on top of it. You came across the camper squelch! Hope to see you 3 again very soon. X

A usual day on the farm would be to meet up at the farmhouse and go with Farmer Tom to feed the animals. The site have a flock of some 700 breeding ewes so there are always orphan lambs which need feeding both day and night as well as some of the cows and pigs.

The site is home to a flock of sheep, herd of cattle as well as pigs, dogs, cats, ponies and chickens. Children are encouraged to meet the animals and help Farmer Tom on his daily feeding rounds. There is plenty of space for children to play and use their imagination, stripping the confines of tech away.

Once the animals have been fed, the children normally take the breakfast rolls back to mum and dad in the tents before getting ready to go out. There are also mini landrovers for the little ones to have a go at driving. There is also a seasonal maize maze to run about.

Due to the location, many visitors use this as a base to explore Dorset. Dorchester town is less than 5 minutes away with Weymouth just seven miles due south. There are also beautiful market towns of Bridport, Sherborne, Blandford etc within easy driving distance. The famous Jurassic coastline is also always close by for a bit of fossil hunting with museums to visit.

Other attractions include:

  • Dorset County Museum
  • Maiden Castle
  • Athelhampton House and Gardens
  • Kingston Maurward House
  • Jurassic Coast
  • Weymouth beach and lots of other harder to find beaches
  • Tyneham Village
  • Lulworth and Durdle Door
