About Unthank Farm Sunset Meadows Campsite

Surrounded by picturesque countryside and set on a working farm, this peaceful site offers a relaxing stay in the heart of Yorkshire. Surrounded by wonderful walking trails and charming pubs, the site provides an idyllic rural getaway. The camping site is situated to the west of the farm buildings just past the house in a one-acre gently sloping grass field. The pitches themselves have been levelled to make it easier for pitching your caravan or motorhome and you will find electric on five of the pitch and a water supply for your convenience. The grass and hardstanding pitches are well spaced out with all the pitches having a wonderful view over the valley and river. With the site being west of the farm, you will hopefully see some beautiful uninterrupted sunsets, hence the name of the site. Dogs are also welcome here so no member of the family needs to be left behind! Please note, there are also five Caravan and Motorhome Club pitches onsite.

A note from the site themselves...

My family have been farming the land here since 1939 when my grandfather moved here, but it wasn't until the late 70s that my father introduced caravans and camping into the mix. It's now run by myself, Simon, Gaynor, my wife, and Eve who plays the part of welcoming warden.

To me, the campsite is all about the people it brings to the farm, our guests. With our nearest neighbours being about a mile away, the winter can often be quiet, and we can't wait for Spring to bring the campers with it. We have made many good friends over the years and love walking around in the evening, chatting and sometimes drinking with people from all walks of life.

Please have fun and enjoy yourself but respect your neighbour and the farm.

Pleased keep pets under control and pick up after them.

BBQ's are welcome but please don't burn the grass.

Check out is by 12pm.

This is a working farm so respect it, the animals and machinery

Being just 15 minutes from the Yorkshire Dales, there are hundreds of activities that are available within a short drive, whatever your taste may be. Fom the adrenaline junkies to more sedate options there will be something to keep you occupied.

On the farm itself there is always something interesting going on, in spring the owners are busy lambing so there will be baby lambs being born and running around the field in front of the site. Small pigs have also been reared onsite which often families find quite amusing!

From the farm, there is a lovely circular walk which can take you past three local pubs all of which serve lovely food and drink. The site itself is quite spaced out and provides plenty of space for active dogs and children without encroaching on your neighbour.

Other nearby attractions include:

  • Harmby Waterfall (5 minutes)
  • The Forbidden Corner (15 minutes)
  • Thorp Perrow - Arboretum and Bird of Prey and Mammal Centre (15 minutes)
  • The Big Sheep and Little Cow (15 minutes)
  • Richmond Castle (20 minutes)
